Groups @ Brockley Central

Given the popularity of the Brockley Central Cycle Lane, we are planning to create a few more threads for special interest groups locally, for people to organise themselves online.

We plan to reawaken the Tennis thread (which resulted in a lot of interest but only one actual match, to our knowledge) and someone suggested a thread for runners. If there's an appetite for it, we'd like to create a baby-sitting circle thread too.

Please leave your suggestions for other threads we could create here.

Speaking of Groups, don't forget the meeting of the Brockley Cross Action Group, tomorrow at The Broca, 7.30pm. Kate will be reporting on the meeting for Brockley Central (thank you Kate).

Does Brockley have a some kind of running group or club? I've noticed a few runners about.

Sorry if this has been in a previous thread but the search isn't helpful and I only started reading yesterday :)

There seems to be serious mileage to be had in turning this blog into a forum! (I've learnt the difference now).

Threads for runners, tennisers, footballers (Brockley Corinthians anybody?), and of course the cyclists (henceforth known as BC Riders...)

Sport - and threads - for all!!!

Having a complementing forum would probably work quite well. Problem is always spam-bot prevention and maintainance....

Anonymous - I do a lot of running but have not joined a club yet, in fact am restricted to cycling at the mo as I have a stress fracture in my left shin and have been tod not to run for 3 months (from Jan 08). Kent AC operates on the running track in Ladywell Park and is a very well respected running club, I may go along there after April. Up til now my running has been restricted to running to work and back a couple of times a week (Brockley to Chancery Lane) and weekend runs up to Blackheath Greenwich and back

I'd agree with a forum, then there can be a fair few categories, including:

Social sporting activities - touch rugby on Hilly Fields Sunday Morning anyone??
General Social activities - ermm, chess, book clubs, wine tasting, alotments, etc.
Community Cooperatives - baby sitting, skills swap, etc.
Volunteer Brockers Improvement activities - ermm, brockley cross action group, guerrilla gardening (legal and organised, volunteer 1/2 a day to regenerate some derelict land and have a piss up), Tea factory gallery, etc.
Tradesmen recommendations - self explainitory
Brockley Info - farmers market, venue reviews, etc.
Bar - a defined area for the banter in this blog.

I'm up for the touch rugby!

Joking aside, a forum seems the logical next step and Nick can share out the moderating responsibilites to a few sensible souls and it can evolve organically, with people opting into what they want.

Back to paying the bills.........

I think that Jon and Nick are looking into a forum, but let's not underestimate the amount of work it would take both technically and in terms of content. They both already work very hard for this site!
A forum would be great, but let's be patient.

@ John & Nick - Kudos for the work put in to date

@ Kate - my view is you've contributed a fair bit too.

Gents, if you do decide to go for a forum at some point in the future, I recommend www.yuku.com (was ezboard). It's as easy to use as blogger, is free, setting up takes minutes and shifting existing posts is a cut and paste job.

Anyone into Badminton?
I've heard St John's Church do badminton on a Thursday but I've never been.

Thanks Jon S - but I don't think I do much, other than whitter on about whatever takes my fancy! It has been really marvellous to see this place grow and thrive over the past year (on which subject, I understand, there will be 'more soon', to coin Brockley Nick's usual phrase!)
