The Monday Club, Jam Circus
At the risk of turning the site in to 'Jam Central', this offer by Richard from the team at Jam Circus, is too good to pass up.
On Monday nights, JC doesn't serve food, meaning that they have some space. Richard would like to offer Jam Circus for use by a local group as their base for regular meetings. And he's asked us to create this post for people to leave their suggestions. The Broca, for example, already plays host to a club for local writers.
So, as long as you're not looking for a new HQ for your terrorist cell or worse, the actual Monday Club, leave your requests here.
We draw the line at doing a poll of what beers they should serve though...

Just checked out the Monday Club...well at least it's BRITISH!!!
What does that mean Monkeyboy? What does British mean to you???
Please andy, it was a litte joke. Let us not have anothe thread dominated by these arguments. thanks.
Wasn't even a very good joke...Sorry nick...
I guess I was tempting fate with the monday club line...
"cos I'm a freak. I'm a weirdo. What the hell am I doing here? I don't belong here."
What are you suggesting Anon? The Monday Night Teenage Angst Club?
Any info on the writing group at the Broca?
It was a little joke at my expense, Nick, not very nice.
In case anyone is interested, this thread seems to be rather up to date! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brockley
A Jam Central is the last thing I need - I already have to think twice before answering my home phone with 'hello jam circus...'!
One guy contacted me by email about a chess club, but hasn't got back to me. Would that interest anyone?
Also, I'm giving thought to having a dart board one Monday each month - one of our customers makes wooden furniture in Crofton Park and would be willing to make a dartboard housing and organise a Bullseye-esque competition.
"There's a kind of hush, all over the world tonight."
The Brockley Knitters already meet on the third monday of the month at Jam Circus, 8pm onwards. Just follow the sound of needles :-)
ratbag
Not so much a knitting circle more of a jam doughnut?
How about fans of baseball arranging a meet...Jammy Dodgers.
A backgammon club would be a great idea
sjw, if you know some backgammon players I would be happy for you to organise something for a Monday evening.
Something else I will consider is a pasta night on Mondays - our new part-time chef is an Italian guy and could maybe do a couple of pastas, a salad and some garlic bread on a Monday evening. Would make a change
Update on the Brockley Knitters, they have moved to Mr Lawrences Wine Bar, 3rd monday of the month at 8pm
Richard - I went to JC at the weekend with a mate, and we decided to plumb the depths of pickiness in order to find suggestions for you! We could only come up with a couple - it would be really good to have coat/bag-hooks under the counter opposite the bar, for reassurance. I'm sure you don't have bag-snatching problems, but it would be useful.
Secondly, the counter itself is a bit sloping, so our drinks were sliding floor-wards a little. Not a serious problem but you might want to keep an eye on it.
On a positive note, the Brooklyn Lager was really nice!
hey there Richard,by any chance would you be looking around for part time/full time staff over at Jam Circus? I do know a couple of people.. well students actually that have been asking about part time availability of jobs around the area...
Kate - I'm going to open your posts with trepidation from now on, but thank you for keeping an eye on Jam Circus. Bag hooks - a definite possibility, I'll look into it. We haven't had problems yet, but there are definitely ne'er do wells in the area, who actually got away with our laptop last summer (very much my fault for leaving it on show)!
As for the slopey shelf, you're not wrong. In short, I can only assume it was put up by idiots. I have replaced many a drink that has slid to the floor. Napkins under glasses are the best solution as I don't see that shelf being replaced any time soon.
What day did you come in? I was probably there - you should introduce yourself.
EaudeVie - I'm definitely fully staffed at the moment, but your friends should drop in their CVs. We have really good staff retention, but naturally people leave for greener pastures, so it's always good to have jobseekers on file.
Thanks Richard - I should add that my mate was well impressed and enjoyed the Hoegaarten white beer you had on tap! She also said that she judges a place by its ladies' toilets, and you guys score top marks in that particular category.
It was Saturday, around 4pm. I did see a guy bustling about, but he looked far too young to be you so I chickened out of introducing myself ...
If he was young(ish) and bustling about it would have been me as the only other man on duty on Saturday would have been a 42-year old chef!
It wasn't actually Hoegaarden, but Grolsch Weizen, a really nice beer.
Ah yes that was it, Grolsch, sorry! Couldn't remember. Anyway, she liked it!
Next time I see you I'll say hello (as long as you don't look too busy, of course!).
Excellent! Will do just that by telling them.:) In fact a whole lot of them and I know I met you a couple of days ago... with the whole bunch from Goldsmiths. Now I really wonder if youd remember my name.
Anyways..Thanks though.. shall tell them about dropping in their CVs.:)
