Thanks
Brockley Central is one year old today. So for one post only, I thought I'd drop the "we" contrivance and write as myself. Partly, in honour of old-skool Brockley Central but partly so that I can say a few thank yous.
Firstly, I'd like to thank Brockley Jon, for all his hard work on building the site and helping to fill it with stuff.
Secondly, I'd like to thank Kate, for being the first reader to put her money where her mouth was and actually write articles for Brockley Central.
Thirdly, I'd like to thank all the people who linked and contributed to the site in the early days, helping to build the community. People like (but by no means limited to) Andrew Brown, Sue Luxton, Stuart Woodin, Bob from Brockley, Moira Tait, John Morgan and Dean Walton.
Fourthly, to everyone who's sent ideas, posted comments and spread the word. Far too many to name, but you know who you are.
But most of all, I'd like to thank Nicola, Louis and Huxley, without whom in my life, Brockley would be an empty place.
Happy Valentine's Day.

I was just saying that I felt unappreciated... and boy did I get that wrong!
Well done, Nick. Over the past year you have done a marvellous job in delivering one of the best community sites (Brockley Central)on the WorldWideWeb. Whether it's You, I, or We... good luck to YOU (Nick), I (Jon) and WE (Kate) etc.
Congrats with this site, you have successfully sowed the seeds for improving a community, including attracting new blood. A good implmenetation of a PR campaign.
Aw, no need to thank me, it's been a total pleasure! Thank YOU for doing all the hard graft!
Happy Birthday Brockley Central Blog!
*pops a party popper*
Absolutely, many congratulations!Great site with fun and interesting contributors.
Well done and thank you Nick and Jon, for taking the initiative.
Congrats on your first year and here's to Brockley.
Happy birthday blog.
Let hope its all good news in the next 12 months.
If the Honor Oak Talbot takeover has fallen through (as seems more and more likely as time passes) could Richard @ Jam Circus get Antic interested instead?
A Talbot along the lines of The Royal Albert would be very welcome....
@TM - I tend to agree with your analysis of the situation and even asked Richard at Jam Circus pretty much the same question. He posts the site often enough, that I'll leave it to him to tell you what he thinks...
nice on lads (and lady's) - keep it up!
Congratulations - amazing what you've done in a year.
ah - happy birthday! great site very informative and certainly helping to improve what was once a bit of a depressed area.
Congratulations and Happy 1st Birthday on a great site - it's one of my five a day (along with the BBC..)
You've done great things already - here's to many more great things to come.
I used to live in SE1 and when I left there over a year ago for the lovely greenery of Brockley, the thing that I was really sad to lose was the excellent se1 website. It was a font of local information, gossip, rants, scandal and generally marvellous - we even organised a high profile anti postal theft campaign! But now I'm as addicted to the Brockley Central site as I used to be with Se1 - and long may it continue. Congratulations on your first year and all your hard work.
This blog is worse than crack...if I don't stop my constant posting I'll be sacked.
Please close the page down for the sake of my mortgage.
Does this mean theres a yummy cake floating around? Mmm....
TM, I don't think Antic would be interested for two reasons:
1. The owner is keen to march on with recognisably different pubs in different areas, with each unit recognising and integrating with the fibre of it's locality. Basically, The Talbot is too close to Jam Circus & Royal Albert. I actually suggested a long time ago that the company look at buying Bar Equal and turning it into a small evenings and weekends local, but the operations manager dismissed it as too close to Jam Circus.
2. It's a Punch Taverns leasehold. Some of our pubs are tied, but the most attractive sites are freeholds where you can choose your suppliers, take home the profits and benefit from any increase in value of the property.
Of course I don't speak for the owner or the company. I can't disagree, by the way, that area is crying out for the Antic treatment. I'm sure if the Jamies of Honor Oak finally get it you'll have a lovely new local!
My uncle once told me (very flippantly!!) he would like to own The Talbot, and with his background in hospitality I'm sure he could have turned that pub into a fantastic place to eat and drink. I'll be sure to mention to him that it might still be available!
Oh, and congratulations to Nick and Jon on BC, as a fairly recent viewer I can say this blog is a joy to read and one of my homepages, both at home and at work.
Keep up the good work!
Thank you for the blog I appreciate having a place to read about events in the neighborhood I live in. Keep up the good work!
If I can ever make it to a Brockley Central drinks night I owe you two a beer!
Congrats on a good job! For those new to the area like me this is a great place to refer to- Thanks
Thanks everyone for your kind words and all your contributions. I still can't quite believe it's only a year - seems like we've come such a long way in that time.
I myself want to say a big thank you to Nick. It's no secret that he's the man putting in most of the hard work - sacrificing many many hours of free time, all to give us our essential daily read, and of course doing a big favour for the greater Brockley. Thanks for letting me be a part of this.
Nick, as a little present, I've just given us a virtual birthday badge, which I think is quite cute - hope you like it.
And May I add - on behalf off all Brockley I am sure - a GREAT BIG THANKS...
to Nicola, Louis and Huxley for lending us your man/dad.
to be honest Nick I'm glad you're dropping the "we". it's a contrivance which sounds increasingly odd - eg "we" went to school with Stephen lawrence. No "we didn't". You did. anyway other than that. Congrats.
I love the badge Jon! Very sweet :o)
I disagree! I love the "we" moniker! Kind of tongue in cheek royal... Keep it up! If you stop, I'll start to keep the tradition up
As editor of this publication you have to distance yourself with a "We" contrivance.
Well done. I find the site informative, inspiring and funny, the best addition to SE4
love it...
@Jon - love the badge!
