East London Line in recognisable location shock

A key part of East London Line infrastructure has been winched in to place in recent days. We post this picture up (courtesy of DarJoLe) not so much because it required a record-breaking crane to winch this bridge over Shoredith High Street in to place, but because it shows how close the ELL runs to Liverpool Street Station, on the east of the City.

The tall building on the right is called Broadgate Tower. It sits next to Liverpool Street and is part of the City's controversial eastward march in to Hackney. Meanwhile the tall thing in the foreground is the Gherkin.

As an Engineer this gives me a warm glow...

By the way you may have seen the bridge currently sitting parallel to the track near the New New Cross depot. that will be winched or lifted onto the concrete piers you can see being built I believe. Not as pretty as the one you show, it's a much more functional affair.

Will make the cracked walls in New Cross seem worth it!!

A bridge to where? I thought there wasn't any need for any new bridges near New Cross?

Apparently its....

"A small flyover will connect the existing line at New Cross Gate Station to the line out of London Bridge, serving all stations from here to both Crystal Palace and West Croydon"

Look out the window of the train on the Sainsbury's side, you can't miss it.

it looks too low for double deckers...

I reckon they might have thought of that...

London Connections (a very good blog) has proof that the double deckers will fit!

I think they're building a small ramped part of line up to the point where the bridge will start on the Sainsbury's side of the line or it certainly looks like it

I wonder why the new cross bridge isnt as spectacular as the one in Shoreditch? Is it something to do with the council? or planning permission? New cross road is ugly. Having said that, the shoreditch bridge would look out of place in New Cross (as it will in shoreditch!)

If it looked nice someone would nick it for their garden 'water feature'

Is shoreditch in zone 1 or zone 2? we could travel to the city or docklands without passing through zone 1? excellent!

That's right, zone 2.

At first glance I thought that was Deptford...

When I first saw it, it made me think of Wembley...the arch.

Probably because it will be hidden away in the back of beyond, rather than directly over a trunk road.

you think this one looks spectacular? really? i thought it looked really ugly and clunky - not exactly teh millennium footbridge, is it.

New capacity increase strategy. Makes the plaintive crys of "please can you move down" sound rather tame.....

You forgot Andrew Jackson’s Big Block of Cheese with nary a macaroni in sight.
