Drinking ban is fashionably late
The introduction of Brockley’s first Drinking Control Zone (DCZ), which covers a huge area around the Lewisham Way end of the conservation area, has been delayed - apparently due to the council failing to put signage in place quick enough.
It shouldn't come as a surprise, since the original date was aptly set for April fool’s day. The DCZ should now be in effect by 1st May. While Brockley Central is not particularly concerned about the delay, it doesn’t generally bode well for Steve Bullock’s commitment to tackling problems with anti-social behaviour in this area.

That whole area of Lewisham Way is low-life central; hopefully the drinking control zone will get rid of at least some of the problem. I don't understand why that particular stretch of Lewisham Way attracts so many shady types.
There's a couple of signs around brockley that disturb me a bit - one from the offlicense inbetween costcutter and fishybusiness that advertises something along the lines of Tennants Super (tramp juice) in its windows - and another newsie in Ladywell who has a sign saying "This shop NO LONGER sells cider at 59p"...
hahahahaha, "this shop no longer sells cider at 59p". Classic.
The offie covered in Tennants signs (it's called Mira's) is actually a bit of a hidden gem. He stocks some rather nice bottled ales which are a godsend when you want a decent pint at 10pm but aren't heading pubwards. And he's really nice and welcoming too.
No Mira's is Special Brew.
On the subject of cheap cider there seems a to a ban selling it within a certain radius of Lewisham Town Centre enforced by the police. Not sure under what legislation that's done. Might be just a voluntary agreement.
Ah, so its actually a good winery with a slightly 'big issue' exterior? Crafty...
lol
Re steve Bullock and mayoral duties (and admitedly off topic) - I received my postal vote for the London Elections today - maybe it is time to start the debate... I was glad to see Sue Luxton's name down there for London Assembly local rep
Don't worry - the mayoral debate is coming!
Looks like the council couldn't organise a drink in a brewery.
Gimme a break-drinking ban! This is again a load of Bullocks! There is no drinking ban along Upper Brockley Road, no Cannabis ban, no screaming your drunk and stoned head off from 11am to midnight ban, no shooting people's windows in ban either.
