Brockley Cross in bloom

An application has been made to install a new shop front at the site of the former flower shop on Brockley Cross.

Peter Brimson Associates of Brockley Rise has made the application on behalf of the shop's Irish landlords.

Mr Brimson said today that the new shop front would be a "high quality timber shop front" to replace the current facade.

He was not able to confirm whether this work was purely speculative, or whether a potential tennant had been lined up. The shop interior has already been remodelled since the flower shop moved out.

Any investment in this currently pretty moribund part of Brockley is to be welcomed, so long as it complies with the conservation area regulations on appropriate signage and security screening is probably to be welcomed...

BUT one has to ask why the florists left in the first place ...

Intriguing! Didn't the previous article here say that the florist left due to rent hikes?

Another bookies?

Yeah, maybe its that other most talked about local bookies expanding!

That would be sod's law. In fact there isn't a bookies along that parade of shops near ths station is there, so it's ripe for the picking, however it's a very small site, so probably wouldn't suit it

I'm sure it's going to be a wonderful, cake and bookshop, where one can purchase the latest blockbuster fiction or literary tome
whilst also picking from a range of freshly baked goodies.

And yes I have been reading the Power of Positive Thinking by Norman Vincent peale

Hmmmm... Do Dah. You DO need access to better bookshop.

It is dead small, or does it have space out back?

Whats happening to the mysterious bagel shop?

By the way what do people think of the Dry Cleaners near there? The young lad who runs it is nice but not convinced they do a great job.

Hmm. Well, if there is going to be shop front improvements that has to be a good sign. Think about the competition - it already looks good in comparision. Therefore, why would the landlord want to go to the trouble and expense at up grading?

I would bet there is someone scheduled to move in!

Fingers crossed for that KFC franchise we've all been hoping for.

Andy - thats very trusting of you - there are many reasons to upgrade the shopfront - and as the current shopfront is conservation area compliant, I'm very cynical that it is a positive refit. We'll have to take a look at the plans.

As for the drycleaners in Brcokley Road - I reckon they are very good...or "cleaning good, plastic bags also good, friendly demeanour excellent".

Brimson Associates sounds funeral directors. Probably planning to put up steel shutters

what about a good quality mini cab office?

One with a rough-hewn shop sign completely in keeping with the area.

What about calling it 'Heidi's Hire's' after our glorious deputy mayor?

"Our mincabs use only ethically sourced petrol". Yeah, I can see it now.
