The internet is the best. When a problem with Google's coding caused the recent comments widget to malfunction, bloggers got together on forums and fixed the problem before Google's engineers could come up with a solution. They then shared it with technical incompetents like us and order is restored.
Altruism and co-operation is still more common on the internet than whining and moaning and that ought to give us all hope for 2009. The discussion has also been noticeably nicer on BC recently (without dulling its critical edge), so we'd like to thank you all for that and ask that we can continue in this vein.

Yay! Thanks Nick.
I agree about the wonderful community of the web. Just look at this morning and the reassurance being dished out with the news that water pressure was low all over SE4 and SE14 and that the authorities had been informed so the rest of us need not panic or waste time.
Also when cooking recently my daughter and I encountered a possible problem. I plugged "curdle" and "cake-mix" into a search engine and found a piece that told me what the effect would be and how to take steps to rectify it. It would have been nicer to be able to consult my granny or cousins in an extended family but the hive-mind out there is a useful substitute.
yes happy new year all.
isn't it great how we can mix the traditional (baking a cake) with the modern (using broadband to work out why said cake isn't working)?
oh and property investing.net plugs brockley today (indirectly via its map of amber spots) for particularly high house price growth from 2010. that's cheered me up this freezing morning!
I didn't see any news about the water. Wasn't just me then?
On the close encounters thread.
Not just you - that is only standard paranoia.
Doh! Recent comments has gone again. In fact everything in that right hand bar including Google ads and links to other articles etc has all gone!
Sorry my mistake, it's just all been nudged downwards....
