New website for Darren Johnson

Brockley boy, London Assembly member and prospective parliamentary candidate for Lewisham Deptford, Darren Johnson has launched a new website to support his bid to become an MP.

In the public meetings we've attended where he's been present, he seems like a good egg and a capable performer. He also seems to be at the more pragmatic end of the Green spectrum, which is a mercy.

Joan Ruddock MP (Labour) is the incumbent.

Seems to be a bit of a pro-Green bias on this blog... it all whiffs a bit cabbage-y...

Well they are my councillors, so they're the ones I've largely been exposed to. Plus they're far more active online than any other local party. The number of references to them reflects these two things. This isn't the BBC, so I don't strive to reflect a balance of political opinion at all times, but there have been plenty of references to Cllr Alexander (Lab).

Darren does indeed seem a good egg, to be honest though I've seen more engagement from Cllr Dean Walton.

VOTE DEAN IN 2010!!

(if enough of us say it he may stand - could lead to some awkward breakfast conversations though)

We should have more references to the Telegraph Hill ward councillors considering half of brockley sits in it.

Well cat man, if any of them bothered to email, tweet, post comments on this site or make contact in any other way to tell me what they're doing and why its relevant I'll happily consider it. As it is, they don't. Hence the lack of coverage.

Joan Ruddock is a political Goddess. She has done and continues to do so much for our constituency.

Lewisham Deptford is one of the safest Labour seats in the country. Darren Johnson has stood against Joan Ruddock twice before and has done better each time, but last time the runner up was the LibDem candidate. I wonder if that will change now the Greens are so well represented on Lewisham Council. I don't know how good a constituency MP Joan Ruddock is but there is often something to be said for a change - she's been our MP since 1987.

In several years in Brockley I've never met or seen Darren Johnson. He won't get my vote.

The change this part of Lewisham needs is Mayor not MP

100% in agreement with that, Comment! It was very frustrating that at the last Mayoral election there were so many opposition candidates. If they'd all sunk their differences and put forward just one candidate they could quite easily have beaten Sir Steve.

My brockley-living brother has only good things to say about joan ruddock in a recent encounter.

I've seen/spoken to to Darren Johnson many times - he stands outside Brockley Station leafletting and talking to people in the mornings in the run up to every election I can remember, he takes a stall at Hilly Fields Fair too. I've always thought he was more visible than any other people courting my vote!

I've met and spoken to both J Ruddock and D Johnson. I found ruddock charming, agreeable but with a heart of new labour beating in her chest. Apart from that she works tirelessly for her constituents but, negatively, she supports the regeneration of Central Lewisham in it's present form, this *after* she was lobbied by the developers.

I found Johnson to be a bit tepid, coy, and furtive with an easily read 'hidden agenda' that puts himself at the top of the list - bit like most politicians I guess...

Joan Ruddock has always done well by the people of Deptford and Brockley and supported many causes. DJ on the other hand has always sat on the side lines, I have never known him to stick his neck out on anything, unlike Joan who will stand by her beliefs.

I've had responses and personal help from Darren Johnson on issues I have contacted him about. He took time to see a tricky situation thorugh to the end, ensuring the council produced results and checking back to see if I was happy with the outcome.

I'll vote for the person (and party) that are most active in my community. That'll be Mr Johnson then.
