Extreme measures

People say "Yo, Humpty, you're really funny lookin'" that's all right 'cause I get things cookin'. Ya stare, ya glare, ya constantly try to compare me but ya can't get near me.

The same or similar thing happened closer to home with the truncated bit of Arbuthnot Road that runs on the north side of Telegraph Hill Park. We were also going to have to pay full whack for a road closure notice to have things parked and going on there for the Grand Park Re-opening in 2005, even though the road is only yards long with no access to anything other than two private garages and closed one end anyway.

It looks so pathetic.

'speed cushions' are far more pathetic and do absolutely no good at all, in fact I'd say they are a danger, allowing traffic to either pull into the middle of the road, or drive closer to the curb, to avoid them.

Wouldn't it be nice if they'd put some of this money towards resurfacing some of the horrific roads in the area which in some cases almost seem to have reverted to dirt tracks!

Overall though I am in support of road humps. The ones on Manor Ave stop loonies cutting through from accelerating hard before swinging into Ashby Rd to avoid Wickham Rd.

I would agree that "speed cushions" are dangerous. As a cyclist they are particularly scary, as I descend Pepys Rd for example, I am often travelling faster or at least at the same speed as the traffic and it is alarming when cars suddenly brake and swerve to the middle/edge of the road so that they can maintain speed over the "cushions". I get the same on roads like Sandbourne, cars often suddenly swerve when they notice speed cushions so that the cushion passes between the car's wheels, but as a cyclist, if I am further into the middle of the road passing parked cars for example, it is bloody scary when a car suddenly swerves towards you to avoid going over the cushion.

Ohh.. Pepys road, I love it!

Am I the only cyclist to prompt the '20 mph' speed limits flashing up?

Hardly, you can free wheel down it and do 20.
