Brockley work space

Reader Tom is looking for a work space in Brockley:

I am trying to find a disused room / garage / shed in Brockley that I might be able to rent for about £ 150 a month. I wondered if you know of anywhere (I've tried the Arthouse and Deptford's studios. I was thinking of all those seemingly abandoned sheds / warehouses in Brockley's mews.

Please email us here if you want to get in touch.

To find somewhere that is both secure and free from damp might be a bit of challenge.

I know somebody with a desk in Surrey Quays to rent if that's at all helpful. I know it's not Brockley, but....

I've got a nice spot up the mews - I use it mainly for burning matresses but you'd be welcome to it.

throw your support behind the big yellow (which isn't actually yellow) thing and get a box in there

I often want a workspace outside my flat to do work. There's no nearby quiet libraries, so I have to trek into town.

I got a nice yellow cardboard box on Adelaide Avenue which you can have if you like? 2 chewed chicken bones thrown in for free...

Ashby Mews may suit him well.
This evening the recent planning application, which had caused some controversy, has been approved by Lewisham Council. The permission now sets a precedent for double height buildings in every mews in Lewisham. Well done lazy councillors!

for what its worth, I knew someone who had a great deal to split the rent on a garage off breakspears rd for storage. Unfortunately they had a dispute with the person they shared with & didn't get round to paying their share. All their (and their mates' stuff) ended up being repossessed. Take it seriously & you might find someone to share the rent with.

Lewisham Council seems to be going through a phase of letting just about anything through planning in the conservation area at the moment. They approved the construction of 2 honkin' great buildings on Wickham Mews a few months ago (single height thank goodness) and now this on Ashby Mews. They also seem to have granted permission for the developers of the previously near derelict 14 Manor Ave to construct to nasty great shed like structures in the front garden and concrete over the remaining space (even though a short time ago they said that any concreting of garden space in Lewisham needs planning permission and there would be a presumption against it, presumably to help with the problem of water run off onto the roads).

So if you fancy building a 10 storey block of flats at the end of your conservation area garden, now's the time to make the application, it'll probably get passed.

Back to the topic, love detective, I have heard that it's becoming quite popular to rent a space in these storage facilities for things other than storage - such as music band practice or art pursuits of some kind. Not a bad idea.
