Brockley Central Drinks tonight!

We hope to see you tonight at the opening of The Talbot pub, Tyrwhitt Road, from 7pm.

The team has been working round the clock to get the pub ready in time, so the least we can do is turn up and attempt to drink them dry.

For those who haven't been to a BC drinks before, the organisation is so subtle that you could be forgiven for thinking that there is no organisation at all. Just turn up, have a drink and start chatting to people. Come and say hello to Brockley Nick, Brockley Jon and (when she turns up a bit later) Brockley Kate. Or feel free to ignore us - entirely up to you.

Other drinking establishments are available.

There's a couple of benches on the railway bridge round the corner from the Talbot for example. Plenty of drinking goes on there.

However I wouldn't want you turning up tonight s**tfaced.

its true. pre-drinking in the parks/on the benches, although classy, tends to put me slightly over the edge. will save that behaviour for the talbot.

What a fantastic evening! Loved the new look, great service and look forward to trying out the menu. Heard the bits being passed round were tasty too - although finished by the time I got there just gone 9.

Brockley Nick, Kate and Jon - you need neon lights with arrows identifying who you are - would really have been pleased to meet you but hadn't a clue amongst the crowd there tonight.

However, did meet my ex-landlord and his girlfriend, current neighbour as well as the friends I'd agreed to meet up with anyway.

Headhunter - kept an eye out for you and Toshi but didn't spot you. Shame as I would have liked to have caught up with you guys.

Hugh seems to have kept a low profile...

Plan on spending lots more time (and money) at the Talbot!

Apparently Kate is organising a quiz team, what a great idea, wish I'd thought of it.

...and Cllr Dean dealt with me and Nick's onslaught with aplomb.

Bed...ciao.

I was there Bea! But didn't get there til 9 or so. I was the one using an umbrella as a walking stick as some d*ckhead in a Ford Escort pulled out in front of me whilst I was riding to work on Thu morning, causing me to have a pretty nasty accident. Badly bruised and scratched up but luckily still alive and managed to drag myself out to The Talbot.

It was incredibly busy and I didn't recognise Nick, anyone else from BC, you or TJ so ended up upstairs with one of my neighbours and a friend who lives down the road from the pub. We'll have to catch up again soon!

Sorry - came, saw, but was conquered by the crowds and retired in defeat to somewhere emptier. Will try again when things have settled down a bit.

Well anyone who ended up upstairs would have walked straight past us, as we were camped out by the bottom of the stairs/by the ladies!

Anonymous said...

what's a real drinker?

Headhunter said...

Sorry but you weren't sat with me anon. I have never met Cat Man and I was standing the whole time I was there....

Anonymous said...

Yet again, Brockley Central readers fail to come together! Mission accomplished?

Anonymous said...

Er, there were 300 of us! I met plenty. But then, I'm anon!

Anonymous said...

Mmmmm 300,maybe not that many eh.I've told you a 1000 times not to exaggerate.

Anonymous said...

Stop your trolling mate. 300 easy. I was there from start to finish and the place was packed all night, with people coming and going.

Now cheer up and go outside.

Anonymous said...

your bullshitting, you wouldn't get 300 in there.Unless you meant outside ?

Headhunter said...

There may have been 300 people there but I doubt they were all there because of Brockley Central, it was open to other people too! I invited a friend of mine for example and he invited a friend of his and neither of them know BC. I wondering how many people were there through BC.... Did any BCers actually make contact with each other?

Anonymous said...

Headhunter, your mates were there because of you and you were there because of bc, which means they were there because of bc. It's called word of mouth!

And not 300 at one time, but 300 during the course of the evening. Read the comments from people like tamsin and those on twitter who said they didn't get past the front door because it was so packed!

And "mg"!

Headhunter said...

Shame I didn't get to meet any of you (again). To be honest it was quite hard to get around as I was walking like an old man with a crutch (umbrella) following the bike accident (in case you missed that the 1st time and forgot to lavish sympathy on me...).

I somehow struggled upstairs an ended up tucked in a corner with a couple of friends and the left at 11 or so. BTW what time's closing time?

Sounds like Hugh wasn't there to honour his bet...

HH, we passed each other on the stairs, the grimace on your face as you went up says it all. I hope its just bruising and gets sorted soon.

Not sure I will ever visit The Talbot again really. Tonight was the fourth time in a row I have left annoyed/out of pocket/hungry!

1. There are not enough staff, leaving you waiting 10 minutes to pay the bill, while the staff faff about and chat.

2. Once they overcharged me on my credit card by £50.

3. Once I went in on a quiet day for lunch and sat a full twenty minutes for them to take my order, as the staff were too busy chatting (and I was next to the bar!)

To conclude: the cute ginger pub cat will pay you more attention than the staff!!

Anonymous said...

Was it not possible for you to walk to the bar and place your order? As one would in any other pub that serves food...

Headhunter said...

Well I like The Talbot, staff have always been fine and they allow dogs. Still an asset to the area. Certainly better than if it had been turned into flats or something...

If you can't get served in the Talbot try calling the Bar Staff by name.

They are:
Andrew
Charisma
George(F)
George(M)
Gary
Michael
Nico
Natalie
Pearl

Hope I haven't missed anyone.

You may gather that I spend more time in there than is good for my health. But then I do live in the same road.

The cat has a working nick name of Marmalade but does not answer to it......yet.
