Best newcomer
We're planning our review of the year - because we must - and it's already clear that after a relatively quiet 2008, in 2009 Brockley was a hive of activity, with plenty of new arrivals. But which one has been most exciting for you? Please take a moment to vote for your favourite newcomer on our new poll.

Bit unfair on those just opened.
Why?
SHOP ON THE HILL! Good products and excellent service!
Didn't start in 2009
TSOH didn't open this year, did it?!
Brockley Mess. Without question.
Oscars - lovely place (not sure if it opened this year though).
I've only used one of them - its in my road - so I will have to vote for that.
Which actually points to another unfairness (Anon 11.02) if this was anything but a bit of fun and a good promoter of discussion. Some are more geographically remote from the home patch of most BC readers than others - the Telegraph has only one vote so far.
(Although I will shortly make that two.)
I'm sure we do this poll every year, it's not a one-off ...
Maybe the winner could give free food or drinks.
@Tamsin - yes, I'm sure The Telegraph is at a little bit of a disadvantage in that respect - but it's not a poll to decide which is "best", simply to ask which got BC readers most excited. In that respect, I thought it best to be as comprehensive as possible and I think it's a nice excuse to remind people of the things on their doorstep.
@Anon - to whom? To me and Kate? ;)
didnt the broca food market open in 2009??
Nope!
I quite agree - and it's a fun way to remind people of all the newcomers. It would be much more invidious to leave the people on the edges off the map.
(Talking of edges - when did the Deli in Tanners Hill open?)
No Ladywell love for "Yes or Yes"? No and no?
Maybe Nick yes,but not forgetting Jon.
Good point!
Brockley Mess
Nearest London Pride is probably the Rising Sun on Loampit Vale whilst for Fullers ESB try the Pilot in East Greenwich.
The Wickham sometimes has London Pride as a guest beer.
I haven't worked out the policy at the Talbot yet. They have a different beer every time I go in so I have not had the same one twice yet.
A little consistencey would be welcome.
Apologies but my last post probably cut across two or three threads...........
C'est la vie.
I recommend you all try the Orchard before voting. I had a Pan Fried Pork Belly there last night that was outstanding.
I wish the Talbot would put Brakspears Bitter on draught.
But you may select multiple answers - can you vote, and come back and add furhter votes, or does it all have to be done in one fell swoop?
May I suggest a new Sardinian restaurant I've only just found out about. Been open since last week - La Costa Smeralda on Nunhead Lane. They're a restaurant but do deliveries and I've just had the least greasy delivered pizza in my life. Fantastic fresh Bruschetta and pizza - check it out..
This is what was Page 2 in one of its previous incarnations, isn't it?
Yes it's the former page 2, got the menu through the door today and it got my taste buds watering, looks quite reasonable too. Looking forward to checking it out.
There is also a new Portuguese pace in Nunhead Green called Na Pura that does the most excellent Peri Peri chicken - run by a Portuguese family, they also deliver. A great, and for this area, healthy (it's grilled) way to eat chicken.
How's the Talbot holding up? I cycled past on Tuesday evening and it didn't look too busy inside. Hopefully more ventured in later on.
make that saturday evening.
what about the film club at the brockley jack theatre
According to the flyer I picked up in the chip shop tonight, there's a new gift shop opening at 89 Ladywell Road this Saturday!
Our country is in massive debt. I am going to focus of wealth generating businesses and green businesses.
The new gift shop also has a stall at the Ladywell Christmas market - outside Ladywell station, 11am onwards. Cakes, hot food, gifts, and local shops, carols, lights, Dr. Bike mechanics from CTUK and more!(shameless plug!)
Browns of Brockley, best coffee in Brockley by far
