Tutors in Brockley
We were emailed recently by Molly, a tutor living in the area, who wanted to promote her services locally.
It's an area we haven't covered before on Brockley Central, so please feel free to use this thread to recommend tutors and other local educational services.
In the mean time, if you're looking for an English or Maths tutor for primary school-level children, Molly says she specialises in helping kids pass the 11+, common entrance and 7/8+ entry exams. Click here to email Molly.

@Anon 11.48: the standard of English in that post isn't much of a recommendation, I'm afraid!
Hello all
I'm currently looking to expand my list of music students (particularly adults but also children). In case you don't know me, I run the Open Mic night every month at Jam Circus.
I teach piano (jazz, pop, rock), guitar, male vocals, music technology, songwriting and general musicianship.
I am a fully qualified classroom teacher and over the past 17 years have taught at many local schools including Prendergast, Crofton, Sedgehill, Blackheath Bluecoat, Forest Hill and Kingsdale...
I charge £35 for an hour's lesson. You do not have to have weekly lessons - we can do fortnightly or even monthly.
Please contact me on richard@richardswan.co.uk or 07971 294652 if you are interested.
Thanks very much
Richard Swan
would Molly give more information about her previous experience or does she have a website? thanks
I'm very much looking for one-to-one French (speaking) tuition if anyone could recommend...
Any music teachers - we are likely to be running a Music Taster Workshop on the Tuesday afternoon in the Telegraph Hill Festival (16th March). The idea is to bring along your instrument(s) - if they are robust enough - and children can drop by with their parents to have a go, see what it feels and sounds like.
Get in touch if you would like to know more.
@Anon 15.03:
I am a published playwright and CRB registered tutor. I've worked in primary schools, secondary schools and as a private tutor for four years.
I began working with children with social/behavioural problems, and in the last two years have specialised in helping children succeed at 11+, common entrance and 7/8+ entry exams. However, my main aim is to make learning a pleasurable experience for the child.
I tutor both English and Maths to primary school children and my sessions are tailored to suit the child's needs.
If you are interested or have a query, please contact Molly on 07734084195 or moon_davies@hotmail.com
That's a great idea Tamsin - I could bring a keyboard and a guitar... I'll pencil it in the diary!
My six year old wants to learn to play the guitar but I think one hour on his own might be a bit much. There was a lovely Yorkshire gent on in the snow on TV the other day who charmingly described his son for posterity as having a mind like a gnat. Afraid applies to our sprog. He would probably be better in a group setting- any one teach guitar to groups?
My daughter was giving a four-five year old a bit of harp tuition last summer... "Yes, Peter, I know you're a fish, come and run your fins over these strings, what do you think of the sound?" etc.
There will be an acoustic guitar workshop on the Monday in the Festival, but that is aimed at all ages and would probably not be suitable.
If Richard - or anyone - wants to think about group tuition for primary age children it is something that could be floated at the Tuesday Festival event and I think there are probably some after-school slots available when the Centre Lounge could be rented.
Does anyone teach art. I wanna learn how to draw cartoons- ahem sketches.

It is really good to have a tutor. Good things you are considering this. My kids tried the long island private tutoring before and it really changed their performance in school. They improved a lot.
