Last day of the Brockley Common big dig
As hordes of curious 'out-of-towners' explore Brockley for the first time today, thanks to the launch of the East London Line, the Brockley Cross Action Group is putting the finishing touches to Brockley Common, which is the first thing visitors will see on their arrival.
Today is the last day of the weekend planting sessions which BXAG has been running, to turn a scrap of fag-end-strewn dirt in to a verdant paradise.
From 1-6pm is your last chance to join the lithe, suntanned team so pick up a trowel and have fun. And even if you can't take part, please say hello to those working today.
UPDATE: If you like stuff like this, don't forget to go along to their AGM on Monday 24th 2010.

Looking good. Thank you Brockley planters. Now we just need a bit of rain to help them settle in :)
Yes, thanks for all the hard work!
Also... noticed that the barriers on Brockley road opposite the Barge have gone!!! Is that because of the new ELL openng today or just serendipity?! Makes the pavement look much wider and you get a good view onto the new flower beds at the corner with Cranfield Road.
Hello BXAG, Thanks a lot- it's just what the Brockley dirt needed.
Gutted we were away today. Looks ace. Who paid for the plants and is there a way to make a donation?
One thousand five hundred plants will make a difference.
The removal of the railings has also helped tremendously.
On finishing my bit of planting, a couple fresh off the ELL asked me if there were any decent bars in the area. It transpired that he was the deputy editor of a small newspaper in search of property on that line. Sent them on to the Orchard.
Great work guys
Thanks. It's just a shame that there weren't more guys to assist.
Lookin' good. the new plants are going to need quite a bit of watering if the weather stays warm and there's no rain, I hope someone's got the sprinklers on stand by!
Many thanks to all those involved; the station approach looks so much better already.
The BX Action group will water the plants until they are well esablished.
Took a wander past the station last night - the combination of multiple train services on the display boards and all the new planting gave me a lovely warm glow :) Thank you so much for your planting efforts....!
Sorry - just to ask again. Can we make a donation for the plants?
what's happening at the far end without planting?
Congratulation BXAG and all their helpers -this looks fantastic .
