Artist Open Studio next weekend

Saturday and Sunday 19th and 20th June 12-6pm, Flat 4, 12 Montague Avenue, Hilly Fields, Brockley, London SE4 1YP.

Not to be confused with the Brockley Open Studios weekend, local artist David Bottomley will be opening his studio, overlooking Hilly Fields, to the public this summer for a selling show of still life oil paintings on canvas and Hilly Fields Landscapes, both figurative and abstract.

He says:

Drop by for a look round after the Brockley Society's Midsummer Fayre on Hilly Fields on Saturday 19th June or on Sunday 20th. Look forward to seeing you there.

Great stuff - David's paintings are wonderful, so full of joy and colour. Hugely talented chap.

I find the piece above alienating. Some abstract / expressionist art can uplift and spark ideas, this one for me results in uncertainty, doubt, unspecified horror.

Each to their own :) but I find his work really uplifting and joyful (eg: http://davidbottomley.org/002paint/gal_001/001.html)

That was my response to the piece above? His other work seems pleasant enough; still life pieces.

I did honestly mean each to their own, your opinion is totally valid, of course! :)

I agree with both of you! Some really nice still life paintings on his website, such as the one with the bowls of plums and the teapot, but I really don't like the more abstract ones, especially that one of Hilly Fields.

Each to their own, as you say.
