Flooding back
By the year 2000, the term "working class" had fallen into disuse in the United States, and "proletariat" was so obsolete it was known only to a few bitter old Marxist academics with wire hair sprouting out of their ears. The average electrician, air-conditioning mechanic, or burglar-alarm repairman lived a life that would have made the Sun King blink.

Don't call it a comeback, he's been here for years. Rockin his peers and puttin suckas in fear.

Former Telegraph Hill Councillor Chris Flood has stepped in to the blogging ring, offering - at last - a Socialist Alternative to the suffocatingly right-wing dialectic that dominates Lewisham politics.
Highlights so-far include a preview of a jobs protest in Deptford planned for tomorrow and why it's OK to like football because Maradona is friends with Castro.

"Its often said by non football loving lefties that football is 'reactionary' and 'de-politicising'..."
"suffocatingly right-wing dialectic that dominates Lewisham politics"
Is that ironic or something? Lewisham? Right-Wing?
This was a bit snide piece.
What is this post doing on the site - it simply comes across as smug derision of committed local politician, only revealing Nick's right-of-centre leanings - even if the Left's tone can be over-earnest the fact of the matter is that during the Blair years the New Labour establishment (in Lewisham) has evolved a worrying list to the right - see their policy towards academies etc - now picked up and run with by the dreadful Michael Gow to reward the all-ready luck amongst us ... wonder how Labour in Lewisham feel about Free Schools?
How does it reveal anything about my political leanings? And what derision are you talking about please?
I think he means a little gentle satire.
If it's the opening quote that offends, then you need to read it more closely.
This is Tom Wolfe gloating about the total victory of US-style turbo-capitalism. It's dated 2000 and already looks deeply anachronistic, given the rise of China, terrible rates of unemployment in the US, stagnating incomes of all but the richest in the US, etc.
Yes, it's satire, but with a hollow-ring. Hence why I liked it so much as a quote for this article.
As to what the post is doing on the site, Chris asked me to post a link to his blog and I was happy to oblige.
Apologies if I misread ... my impression was of someone taking the piss ... but I'm often wrong ... just pretty jumpy at the mo' about politics ... what with the Lib-Dem betrayal of the liberal politic ...
My word. Not the most readable blog
I've ever looked at. He could do with a sub editor. And an editor.
it could do with a bit of humour.
I never voted Flood but admire him for his tenacity.
Bring back Lewisham's brief rainbow politics 2006-10.
