We're sad to report that the Hilly Fields door has come off its hinges. A playful piece of public art commissioned for the Brockley MAX, it was never intended to be a permanent addition to the park, its lifespan was expected to be proportionate to the civility of the area. It lasted nearly five months - we hope that natural causes did for it.
With thanks to Bill for the story and the photo.

Oops, sorry about that. We were banging away last night and things got a little over-zealous.
Will miss the door. Loved the knob.
BDS
Nice while it lasted. What will fill the vacant Hilly Fields plinth?
RIP, I thought it was beautiful.
Anyone else think the BDS sounds like Jay from the Inbetweeners - and is pitied as such?
@Anon - that's a nice idea - make it a regular spot for installation art, each year the MAX unveils a new work...
@ Anon - A jar?
will they repair it? it could last another 5 months at least...
The Hilly Fields plinth is rather a good idea...
Haven't seen the Inbetweeners, but think BDS a predicatble bore.
The reason why the Inbetweeners is so good is because any man can recognise themselves in it.
In one of the 4 characters yes - however the Jay's of this world exist (and are alive and kicking in our BDS)and we can relate to having known someone like him - but not necessarily see ourelves in him. Some of us truely never saw the need to comment on sex as if it were a saucy postcard or a reader's wives magazine
Yes, not saying I identify with Jay...
Have there actually been any reported incidents of dogging on Hilly Fields? I grew up in Clapham and saw a few illicit liaisons on the common.
will need to watch out for the Elf and Safety brigade tho...
Didn't know Richard Littlejohn was a BC reader.
Ed - Saw? Took part in?
Don't breach the doggers code, Headhunter.
Part of the recent Newsshopper hullaboo was about dogging areas (well specifically -same sex dogging-aka cottaging) which the NS had idenitified. One of the places was behind the bowls area on Hilly Fields. The lady that wrote the family values/homophobic letter was reacting to that.
It's about time that ugly eyesore came down. It was to art, what Morleys is to McDonalds. ItIt wans;t clever, it wasn't attractive and it deterred the eyes from the natural beauty of the park. I sicerely hope to god it will be the last of the "amateurish, pathetic" attempt at art.
Charming.
It was perfectly good art - people liked it, it was jolly and playful.
It was a childish attempt to imitate 'Good' art. The idea is there, but the talent isn't. I also remember the other piece of junk at bottom of the fields.
Blimey. Bet there were no childish smudges pinned to YOUR fridge when you grew up. "no Charles! Dogs do NOT have blue noses and wings! Now paint a house and god help you if there are not four windows and smoke curling out the chimney"

I now feel ashamed for liking it. Why am I so tasteless?
I just hope the artist will apologise soon.
