Gosh, wonderful. And on "proper" railway track they can get up a decent speed. I was once changing trains at Swindon when a steam special roared through at full throttle - truely awesome.

I forgot to mention that I saw a beautiful steam engine travelling along the high level line coming home Sunday morning a few weeks back; thought I was still drunk...
Strange, no one else seems have seen this steam train last Sunday.
Now, about your drink problem.....
Its an excusion to visit the Shepherd Neame Brewery.
The engine is an ex LMS Stanier Black Five for those who are interested.

Has the details but not times yet
The Orient Express trains use the high level line at Brockley.
Not as frequent as the tube, is it, mung-beaners?
Yes I have seen the Orient Express in Brockley several times late at night. Convinced it was a ghost train I checked it out and goes from Victoria to Venice using the line from Nunhead to Crofton Park.
Is Lou the "Fox News" correspondant for SE London?
Victoria to Venice via Nunhead and Crofton Park! No disrespect to SE4 and SE15, but it can only really get better from that point, can't it?
Tressilliana,
What do you think "No disrespect" means?
Not sure Tres some parts of Venice are pretty run down.
As an aside Tornado (new steam train look up the A1 Steam Trust) has been at Hither Green for the past few weeks having her(its?) boiler overhauled.

Whats so bad about being on a train going thru Nunhead and Crofton Park?
And what about the Pas de Calais...
Can the Tornado be seen at Hither Green or do we have to peer through fencing?
(As a source of interesting information this blog is invaluable...)
Too late for the Tornado its gone to the Mid Hants Line for now.
I have seen steam trains at the bottom of my garden on a few occasions in the past year (the track behind Geoffrey Road).
I have also seen one on the upper line while I have been waiting for a train at Brockley station.
Was this the Tornado?
One up on fairies anyway.
Pity I missed the Tornado - remember being very impressed when I heard about it.
Used to live near Swindon where you had basic metal going in one side of "the Works" (very much with quotation marks and a capital "W") and engines coming out the other end. All gone or going by the time I was old enough to be aware of it but I gather it was a truly amazing place.
The Lou above wasn't me - it was a fake Lou.
It comes to something when someone nicks your identity on a local message board.
Anyway, I like steam trains. I see them go through Clapham Junction every so often. And we should welcome one here too.
They're certainly much smarter than the cack trains South Eastern inflict on us.
