The online home for all things Brockley (SE4), Deptford, Ladywell, Lewisham and New Cross
Please use this thread to recommend local NYE options. If you run a local venue, please tell us what you're up to.
the hill station
The Royal Albert (Jam's little brother/big brothr) is also holding a Museum of Curiosities & Living Oddities themed night. The Talbot is doing a meal for £30 and Blackheath Halls has a New York Rat pack themed evening.
The Orchard is having a party. 9:00 until 2:00 with a DJ. Tickets are a tenner including a free cocktail. I'm not sure if there are still tickets available as they were close to selling out when we got ours a couple of days ago.
Orchard has sold out sadly, just rang :( Need ideas!!!
@James M, cheers for the free promo!Tickets are £7.50 and we're open 8-3 with a DJ until the end.For Museum of Curiosities & Living Oddities read Victorian Freakshow (bearded ladies, etc, or even Fatboy of Peckham). We're hoping to see lots of freak costumes, but even Victorian-esque get up would be great. There might be some tickets left on the door, but if leaving it until the night I'd arrive early!Happy New Year to all.
Antoinette's Costume Hire in Sydenham has all sorts of attire and gear for hire. Just picked up my Victorian outfit for NYE at the Royal Albert!
I'm having a private party, drinks, fireworks and most outrageously people will be able to smoke, indoors!
Harlequin in Lee High Rd for fancy dress...
I should recommend Prangsta in New Cross for proper fancy dress - amazing and unique stuff they make themselves, even if they do have bizarre & erratic opening times. Got my Victorian freak costume sorted out today at the last minute.
Has anyone noticed there are NO trains running to Brockley or Ladywell on NY Eve or NY Day. Nor is the ELL running.
Correction - re. last post. That's no trains according to TFL journey planner. Southern & Southeastern websites say there are trains. No ELL till late morning on the 1st - not that that'll be a big issue for most of us...
Free travel on the tube :)
@ The Royal AlbertHi, where about are you? Can you give us the address?Ta
Anyone know if The Ladywell Tavern is doing anything, or any of the other pubs/bars in Ladywell?
Headed down to The Honor Oak on Brockley Road earlier (Jam Circus was looking far too packed). Their New Year's Eve offers live music with John Lewis and Jane Keane and friends. Didn't see any mention of a entry fee (though I guess there must be one).
The Honor Oak tickets are £10 which includes a glass of bubbly and midnight snacks. The Talbot meal is a 4 course affair but is £40 not £30 as reported earlier. Not sure where I will end up any where that will have me I suppose.Oh and a Happy New Year to all you bloggers out there.
Does anybody have a spare ticket to Jam Circus tonight? Phoned to reserve two tickets yesterday and when I got down there they'd sold one of them! Ah well. Help would be appreciated.
Brilliant, 24 hour tube, free after midnight on NYE!... Except on the Overground, which closes at the normal time, which once and for all settles the matter that Brockley does not have a tube service, just a glorified train.
Peeved: It confirms it's not operated by LU. No strikes, but no NYE free travel. Win some, lose some. So you don't get a couple of quid on NYE, big deal. Drop in the ocean if you're out in town tonight, innit. Go back on the train and you won't even have to buy a ticket.
Not sure where the Hill Station's request for firewood and fireworks comes from. Ian's posting on thehill forums just says:"We will be open on New Years Eve from 8.30pm until we decide its time to stop and will be offering free drinks and tapas to anyone who would like to pop in and say hello. Come and join us and bring a bottle"
Uhuh. It comes from an email, rather than my imagination.
@zorrogirlSorry, I've attempted two replies to you - both have come to my email as being successful, but neither have showed up.Maybe my link killed it - so, visit royalalbertpub.com and click on the little compass in the top right corner for a map of where we are (460 New Cross Road). The phone number on there is wrong, we're 020 8692 3737
Didn't think you had made it up and was mainly curious. Also slightly apprehensive about responsibility issues. People do set off some quite large fireworks in the Telegraph Hill Upper Park on New Years eve which is slightly scary in such a crowded place and I would have thought Bold Vision would not want to encourage that or publicly say anything that might render them liable in any way. No incidents yet but it could put a stop to what had grown up to be a very enjoyable and spontaneous occasion if anyone was ever seriously injured there.
Think of the children!!!
anyone going up to TGH to watch the fireworks over London?
@ concerned. Exactly. Nice for children to grow up with such a tradition on the doorstep without having it scuppered by a few people being irresponsible.
Found this morning...One in Kitto Road and one in the Upper Park - two (non-matching) gold hoop earrings. Left hanging torque-like on the first spike going down Kitto Road from the Pepys roundabout gate for ease of collection. Also an embroidered fleur-de-lys button. If yours contact me with a fuller description and I will get it back to you.
Lost last night on Hilly Fields... One pair of knickers, a shoe (mens, size nine) and a selection of root vegetables. Please email the BDS at the usual address.
