Trip to The Offies pays off for the Brockley Jack

Darren Batten, Resident Producer for the Brockley Jack Theatre writes:

We heard this morning that The Brockley Jack Studio Theatre has won Best Foodie Experience in South East London in The Offies (The Off West End Theatre Awards) beating The Young Vic and many others! We would like to thank all BC readers who voted for us.

This is our second award already this year, following on from Best Venue Directors in The Fringe Report Awards 2011.

The theatre is going from strength to strength thanks to a committed team, a loyal audience and of course Steve the pub manager and staff who serve excellent food to our audiences. Our current Write Now 2 Festival is attracting new visitors and industry professionals from the BBC and The National Theatre to experience thrilling writing by local playwrights.

That's brill, well done BJ. So just to be clear, are they saying that the food at the Jack is better than the Young Vic et al? With all due respect, I thought they served pretty standard pub grub, but maybe I need to reassess the situation at some point! :P

Have to say i thought the food at Jam Circus was pretty standard. It came with all the right words "best roast in town" etc but not that special when it arrived. It still just tries to be a little bit Hoxton for me. I love the Brockley Jack - the staff are lovely and actually care whether you like the food or not. Pudding Board is ace (way too big for me though!) and the roasts come with everything you want and a friendly waiter that asks if you want more gravy (my favourite kind....of waiter and gravy)

The Brockley Jack is a lovely, welcoming and well-run pub and a great asset to the area. Well done to them!

I have to confess, I've only been to the theatre once but was impressed and will go again.
