As promised, work has begun at Martin's Yard. The site has largely been cleared, paving the way for construction of central Brockley's newest street.

I understand there is considerable status attached to posting first on a new thread so FIRST!
This is a welcome development for the area.
Whereas the demolition on the W P Stone site appears to have ground to a halt.
Not sure why.
The highest status by the way is reserved for the 100th post ;-)
The highest status is reserved for our one millionth visitor of all time, who is due to log on within the next week.
Do we get a prize?
And to stay on topic - excellent that Martin's Yard is underway...
They will be building a Legoland?
Think i'd rather win the euromillion than the bcmillion
It's not an either / or, you can win both! Be my guest ;)
First is first, anything else is last.
@ Ian - it does rather look like it, doesn't it... But the designs when they originally had their public consultation way, way back did look very nice. Not sure where the yellow has crept in from. I think the roofs were originally the more usual terracotta.
The architects Duggan Morris look to be a decent firm and three of their projects are shortlisted for RIBA awards this year which is encouraging!

I like the yellow but we almost always disagree Tamsin!
I quite like the yellow too, but I'm glad that the roofs are not all one colour.
Farewell, good honest scaffolding yard. You will be mourned, I am sure.
Yep, good honest scaffolding yard replaced by artisan studios.
*A popping sound can be heard as the head of the enraged 'Real Brockley' explodes.
And the scaffolding yard has been there since before 2005
Think of all the good honest poles which have been evicted.
And it uses space that is now not available for the new Bakerloo Line to the Kings Road. This just get worse, blame the sandal wearing pinko brigade.
Whither the good honest barbed wire? Why do we need more grass (the horticultural equivalent of olive tapenade)? It's not meant for the likes of us.
This is cosy.
Perhaps the Real Brockley Militia will invade the site, making barricades of satellite dishes, hurling semi chewed fried chicken bones at the police...
We are disappointed that our objection was rejected. We are currently looking at other derelict sites.
Looks interesting. Still not sure where this is though.
Good how new builds can use what materials they like but if you want to put in UPVC windows your not allowed too.
Well no, they will need to submit plans and demonstrate compliance with the relevant building regs before they receive building control approval. That may or may not allow uPVC. it's a brownfield site so presumably they will have different regs than if they were restoring a period property in a conservation area. They will also have far more stringent requirements with regard to energy efficiency for example, the good lord of Lewisham both gives and taketh away.......
I like them!
Interesting. Does anyone know whether Skyline Roofing is part of St Martin's yard and if it will close?
It looks very post-apocalyptic. Is that a man dragging a child away wearing a SARS mask?
No one should be allowed to put in uPVC windows anywhere.
Post-apocalyptic? I don't think we've been watching the same movies!
He's not wearing a mask, he's walking away from the camera, you're looking at the back of his head.
No, I'm with Chen. Look at the body posture. He is pulling the child away from the exciting window display but looking (through his SARS mask) back at what had engaged the child's attention. He is not walking away from camera. And it did strike me as post some disaster - if only excess bleach in the water they wash their clothes with!
Thanks Patrick, always good to see your measured response to an issue. Plastics are evil and shouldn't be used anywhere?
Is it the look, I agree they look terrible. The environmental issue? Again, are you looking to remove platics from the construction industry or all man made materials....like concrete? Safety? there has been some discussion about whether they contribute to a fire spread. uPVC melts and burns, mind you wood burns.
We build planes and spaceships out using polymers. They can work.
The Mung Bean Elite has spoken.
The shop in the picture is a deli and the parent is dragging his child away from the nice selection of artisan produce that the child is pointing at.
And the lady with the troop of children to the right of the picture is off to find a nice pub to annoy the child haters.
lol
And Big Brother (or maybe Sauron) is watching them all - from the hieroglyph lidless eyes on the walls between the windows (uPVC or not).
Well, we get win the euromillions so will have to be the bcmillion
in the picture, unlikely line of children, unless there were a few other 'nursery staff' out of view -child to adult ratios etc
maybe it will be a whole new 'village' -rather than just a yard.
oops - meant to say 'we didn't win the euromillions' surprise surprise
I know the guy who does the Euromillions ads, so I'll ask him to put a good word in for you next week.
"The Mung Bean Elite has spoken."
Oh no, the Real Brockley Militia (motto "Good honest grub, scratchcards and fags for all") has arrived...
the line of children in protective gear are being led to 'BUNKER A' where their brains will be filled with all the relevant information necessary to live a full life in Brockley.
All the necessary information to live a full life in Brockley is found here - a digital Bunker A.
May I once again propose a policy of non-response to Mungist jibes for BC regulars? Reverse psychology works well with kids.
1,000,000?
Thanks, will buy a ticket.
Now how could Brockley benefit from a cut of the winnings?
3 top things?
