As promised, work has begun at Martin's Yard. The site has largely been cleared, paving the way for construction of central Brockley's newest street.

I understand there is considerable status attached to posting first on a new thread so FIRST!
This is a welcome development for the area.
Whereas the demolition on the W P Stone site appears to have ground to a halt.
Not sure why.

@ Ian - it does rather look like it, doesn't it... But the designs when they originally had their public consultation way, way back did look very nice. Not sure where the yellow has crept in from. I think the roofs were originally the more usual terracotta.
The architects Duggan Morris look to be a decent firm and three of their projects are shortlisted for RIBA awards this year which is encouraging!

I quite like the yellow too, but I'm glad that the roofs are not all one colour.

And the scaffolding yard has been there since before 2005
Think of all the good honest poles which have been evicted.
And it uses space that is now not available for the new Bakerloo Line to the Kings Road. This just get worse, blame the sandal wearing pinko brigade.
Whither the good honest barbed wire? Why do we need more grass (the horticultural equivalent of olive tapenade)? It's not meant for the likes of us.

Perhaps the Real Brockley Militia will invade the site, making barricades of satellite dishes, hurling semi chewed fried chicken bones at the police...
We are disappointed that our objection was rejected. We are currently looking at other derelict sites.

Good how new builds can use what materials they like but if you want to put in UPVC windows your not allowed too.
Well no, they will need to submit plans and demonstrate compliance with the relevant building regs before they receive building control approval. That may or may not allow uPVC. it's a brownfield site so presumably they will have different regs than if they were restoring a period property in a conservation area. They will also have far more stringent requirements with regard to energy efficiency for example, the good lord of Lewisham both gives and taketh away.......

He's not wearing a mask, he's walking away from the camera, you're looking at the back of his head.
No, I'm with Chen. Look at the body posture. He is pulling the child away from the exciting window display but looking (through his SARS mask) back at what had engaged the child's attention. He is not walking away from camera. And it did strike me as post some disaster - if only excess bleach in the water they wash their clothes with!

Is it the look, I agree they look terrible. The environmental issue? Again, are you looking to remove platics from the construction industry or all man made materials....like concrete? Safety? there has been some discussion about whether they contribute to a fire spread. uPVC melts and burns, mind you wood burns.
We build planes and spaceships out using polymers. They can work.
