The Hilly Fields Summer Fayre 2011
The Summer Fayre, run by BrocSoc, is one of the main events in the Brockley calendar and this year takes place on Saturday, June 18th, 12pm-5pm. As ever, it will offer an eclectic mix of live shows, rides, stalls, games and food.
But to make it a success, BrocSoc is asking for your help. They say:
What makes the Fayre such a brilliant day is that it is a community event, run entirely by volunteers. But it doesn't happen automatically - we need help on three fronts:
1. FREE programme distribution
2. Volunteers on the day.
3. MAKING CAKES.
1. PROGRAMME DISTRIBUTION: 10,000 to distribute FREE! Attractive booklet with information about all the events + a map of new layout + support from a lot of advertisers. This is a new way of publicising the fayre and its features.
On the day, we're also looking for help with:
Car marshalling and set-up 8am–12noon.
Tea stall: all day
General help all day: programmes, raffle tickets, train, bungee run and gladiator tickets, stewarding, litter picking.
Teenagers: volunteer on a rota with collecting tins to subsidise the cost of Farm Animals and Birds of Prey.
Clear up and litter: 4.30pm till 5.30pm . . .
If you would like to help with any or all of this, get in touch by emailing chair@brockleysociety.org.uk or calling 020 8692 3829.

Wooooooooooo! Can't wait! Great event.
But are you willing to help them out and make it a great event?
Dilute patronising solution by at least 10 parts to 1 before applying.
I do wish the Broc Soc would make more of an effort to contact other users. They know for a fact that we've booked the Chinese Sate Doggers as part of the memorial service for Fred, who tragically died when attempting the Nevada Death Valley Tridogathon, on Saturday. I suppose we'll have to squeeze into my lounge - again.
Cock up or conspiracy?
Which reminds me, the regular cock up reviver on Sunday morning is still on
Patronising, much?
The holier-than-thou contingent on here don't get much better over time, eh.
Bit late in the day to decide to distribute 10,000 programmes isn't it? With a week to go I've not seen much about the Fayre.
@Top Tips, Can't really see the condescnsion so nessecary an ingredient for the 'patronising' brew in what Tamsin said
condescension
@Anon 8.56, I have the programme on front of me now having picked it up this morning in our local shop. From the look of it I'd say I'll plough through it in under a week.
I do apologise though - such instant enthusiasm is often more heartening than offers of help. And I was way out of order as it not an event I'm involved with - indeed I'm doubly guilty in that I can't even be there to swell the crowd as I'm swanning off elsewhere that weekend.
Will a maypole be provided?
I enjoy having a boot fair so close to home each year.
What horrible comments, when people are trying to do something lovely for everyone to enjoy. I saw a programme for the first time today, and am really excited!
Shame the weather looks like it's going to be awful as usual.
That's just what the area was calling for. Decent clothes, produced cheaply.
I know what we all say, 'Fete worse than death', 'Deptford Market on the Green' but the truth is that I love it. I always see old friends, , chat to stallholders. It's nice to chill out and have a walk around, grab some cheap massage in the open air, pick up a few odds and end, get some plants - so chillax guys.
Anybody know who the woman was that was selling cake stands made from old cups and saucers? I want one.
No
Just what you expect from an anonymous: neither helpful nor true. Someone knows, just not you.
OK - No I don't
OK - No I don't
You could e-mail or phone Kate or Clare - the take quite a few details when booking stalls and one of them might be able to find out for you.
Behind you...
