Gentlemen to bed, for we rise at... just after daybreak

Nobody can be uncheered with a balloon.

- AA Milne

Tim sent us these photos of hot air balloons floating over Brockley in the early hours of this morning. One played relaxing music as it passed by his window.

there was some weird music at 6am - woke me up at lewisham mansions. i thought it might be some call to prayer, or the apocalypse (given that the football season in scotland has begun - IN JULY). perhaps it was these dunderheads.

I saw them. Lovely. Does anyone know where did they started from/ended up?

@DJ

Started at Southwark Park and finished near Charlton about half an hour later.

Will be over London (weather permitting) for a few more mornings, in different areas each day.

Thank you. Brightened up my morning.

We saw two one morning last week passing from west to east, a little south of Hilly Fields, I'd say. Both had 'Happy Birthday' emblazoned on the balloon. That was maybe about 6am. Is this a regular thing, then?

How lovely!

Once, driving back from Gloucestershire one summer evening we passed a field with about a dozen hot air balloons being fired up - a truely awe-inspiring sight.

Honestly. Balloons. They disgust me. Out with them.

This wont change anything - it's just a load of hot air.

6am??? Bit early innit?! I'm afraid I was in the Land of Nod with my earplugs in. I'm really sorry I missed it though! Could they pls let us know next time and I'll set my alarm?

I think it's something to do with the countdown to the Olympics,I heard a reference to it on the radio.
Makes a pleasant change to the usual passing "music" heard in this area i.e. the dull thud thud of the out of tune bass notes from the crap sound system of an even crappier car, followed by the symphony of sirens!

I also heard the music this morning in Ladywell. I had assumed it was my neighbour having breakfast on the patio in his garden. I thought it was a bit strange at the time.

I heard the music at 5.30 this morning. Thought it was a neighbour. Now wish I'd got up to have a look!!

I hope they were playing Ride of the Valkeries

I saw them - a very impressive sight.

But then you'd expect us capitalist wealth creators to be work-bound at 6am.

My dad took these pictures... lol!

@Oli Oh, lol. I guess that would wake EVERYONE up.

Anyway, I had to get called out of bed really early because of the balloons. I'm quite tired now.

For a moment, hearing the music, still in a dream state, I thought I had died, and briefly looked around my bedroom thinking this surely can;t be heaven.

Makes a change from being woken up by those freeking green parrots squawking overhead.

Oh thank god-it wasn't a dream and i'm not going mad! I awoke at 06:04 this morning to a strange music-initially I thought i'd changed the music on my mobile phone alarm! Looked out the window and saw several ballons low in the sky floating past my house-one emitting a soft music- still in a sleepy daze i returned to bed and when i awoke at my usual time had a strange memory of watching musical hot air balloons in my garden!!- Asked several colleagues at work about it and they looked at me as if i'd gone mad so i just presumed i'd been dreaming. How bizzare.
