Property share in Brockley and South East London

We got this request for somewhere to live via email, which we're happy to post as an excuse to remind you all that you can use both Brockley Central and this section of South East Central to help you find somewhere to live or someone to live with in Brockley or elsewhere in SE London.

Meanwhile, Lucy's looking for a place to stay:

Do you have a flat/studio/attic/quirky space that you would like to rent out but can't find the right person? I am a 32 year old woman who is very reliable, easy going and honest. I am an actress and a drama facilitator who is very into the creative arts. I am based half here, half in Brighton and I am looking for a bolt hole in Brockley that I can afford, (max £600 per month inc. bills) to look after and call my home. I have lived in this area for 10 years so have many local landlords to vouch for me. I have my own furniture, kitchen stuff, etc. and would love to make my own nest now rather than share a space. So in return for reasonable rent (ie what one person could afford) I would look after your space, be reliable and respectful. If you have anything that you think may suit, do email me on maemoses@hotmail.com, or give me a call 07990 575808. Thanks!

That's what I was thinking. I think even 1 bed flats go for £7-800 per month upwards... Certainly in the conservation area... Go for a house o flat share...

And thats not including bills.

One bed flats on conservation area are around £1000 + council tax and bill.

The east side of the station or ladywell may be more affordable...

Probably missed the boat now but up until recently an number of people got a cheap second London home by simply getting elected as an MP.

I think it's been stopped now but it incensed the public so much that some of the rioted in the streets....

apparently

It does sound, sadly, like a mighty tall order! There ARE studios out there for 650-700 but I'm doubtful (through experience) that you'd want to live in any of 'em! But I admire your creative approach to flathunting Lucy - good luck!

Even in parts of Lewisham you will have problems getting a decent flat for 600 including bills

I remember shopping around for a 1 bed flat back in 2001 when I'd been in London for a couple of years and even then 1 bed flats in Hither Green area were only just available at £600 and then bills on top.... I shared a house in Catford...

£1000! You've been ripped off - I've got a one bed house for £800/mth in the conservation are.

A 1 bedroomed house.

No, I'm not seeing it. THe only house I can think of with one bedroom in it is a lighthouse. A house is just too big. Do you mean a flat?

Anonymous said...

Nope, 1 bedroom house

Love your answer at 10.29.

But what an interestingly high ratio of exterior (or party) wall to living space...

One bedroomed houses do exist; a friend of mine was looking to buy in Brockley recently and we viewed a one bedroomed house at 5A Arabin Road.
