Live bus data from TfL
The Transport for London website now offers live data telling you when buses will be departing any London bus stop. As a tool, it becomes particularly powerful on smart phones, allowing you to judge whether to wait for a bus, find an alternative or do something better with your time and come back in ten minutes. As Diamond Geezer says:
This isn't just useful, it's a game-changer for public transport access in London. Now every bus stop has a Countdown display, even if you can only see it virtually, allowing optimal decision making and on-the-hoof journey planning.
Here's a screen grab of services around Brockley Station, with data for departures north and south from Millmark Grove. Have a play.

Theres a mobile version that should be able to find stops "near you" using your gps.

Is a beta trial site at the moment, full launch at the end of September with plans to integrate it better with journycheck planner
Ooh, first good reason I've ever come across to actually get a smartphone. For those of us who still don't though, is there going to be a number you can ring for the same live info as opposed to timetabled info?
You'd need a pretty rubbish phone not to be able to load that site. Literally anything made in the last 10 years should do it.
i live opposite a 484 stop, just did a test, the bus was a minute late, how dare tfl get away with these shoddy practices . . .
at least mussolini etc etc
Lots of us do have phones that don't have internet access!
Barbara, this is just one more reason to get one! They do not need to be expensive.
Brilliant! Thanks so much for pointing it out.
I just typed in Adelaide Ave and it showed that the 122 to Plumstead was due: so I looked out of my window just as it went past! This could become entertainment to rival the internet for me. In fact, I'm going to buy an inspector's hat and a clipboard just to really get into it.
Even the mobile version is good. Isn't technology brilliant??!!!!
No more waiting around for goodness knows how long at 5am for a 172 to Waterloo in the middle of winter.
I'll now have to see how long it takes me to run to the bus stop, so I can set off at the exact time to intercept the bus.
Life doesn't get much better than this.
I'm surprised this works so well. Their real time information for trains is crap. It even shows information different to that on the platform when I'm on the DLR. I don't know about the underground because I can't pick up a signal on most sections for obvious reasons.
There is a text service but will cost 12p (I'm told)
By the way, you can access the the service by entering a Bus Stop Code. They will be clearly shown on new time tables, they are not up yet. There are codes on the bus stopes at the moment but they are not the ones used to get the info.
The one at the end of Upper Brockley Rd toward Lewisham is 74633
There's this service from them now too

OMG! I know what I'm getting Lou for crimbo.
Great news about the text service, thanks MB! Don't suppose you know where to send the text to (can't see it online)
