Takeaway robberies

The News Shopper reports local takeaway businesses are being targeted by robbers, who place fake deliveries:

The last offence took place on December 11 when an Indian restaurant in Brockley Road was asked to deliver food to Wickham Road. When their driver arrived he was told he had the wrong address and, as he left, was assaulted by a man who stole his money.

It is just one of a number of similar incidents in the Brockley and Catford areas taking place between 8pm and 11pm over recent weeks.

Police have descriptions of two suspects – both white men aged from 19 to 25, with stocky builds and wearing dark clothing. Restaurants are being advised to send two delivery employees, not to carry large amounts of cash and to make sure they get the name, address and phone number of callers.

If you have any information call Lewisham’s Robbery Squad on 020 8284 8411 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Last thing you want when delivering food is that kind of argy-bhaji.

PS Joking aside, I hope they get the cowardly b*****ds that are doing this soon.

That's terrible- poor delivery guys. Asking them to send two people is all very well, but that increases their business costs, and I'm sure they can't afford to.
I'm getting so fed up of crime around here- these people are a disgrace picking on small businesses and individuals in the area.
My car lock was screw-drivered AGAIN last night on Upper Brockley Rd- they did the other side a few weeks ago. I am going to really struggle to pay for the repair that will cost as much as the car is worth. Mindless, selfish *("£*$s.

Funny you should mention about car lock interference, spoke to someone round here who said that they and their neighbour had been victim of this outside their homes.

The crooks didn't manage to get into the cars but did leave significant damage, both the cars in question were not flash motors, so the intention may not have been the car itself. But who knows...

Robbing people raita-side their own homes - disgusting!

Unfortunately this is not the first time this year and I was told of a previous incident, in which the delivery guy was in hospital following a serious stabbing.

I don't think any of this is particularly funny at all.

I'd have a popp-a-dum myself if I wasn't such a coward.

My son applied for a job as a delivery driver at our local Chinese take away - unfortunately they said he was "Fu Yung".

My dad we t to deliver a curry. He now has a broken nose and the doctor is hopeful that he'll save the ight in his other eye.

Is that how you construct a joke based on a real crime? I'm not sure I understand.

Quite right 'bemused'. I've watched these comments and I suppose I might have expected the odd one or two 'jokes', but really there's a nasty racist undertone here.

Bemused said...

Well not racist, it's based on bad Indian food puns! But just poor taste, people have been clobbered.

@Anon 11.46
I'm sorry but I fail to see the "racist undertones" to the many puns posted on here.
@Bemused
Get over yourself you pompous self-righteous plank.
These crimes annoy all of us but a bit of harmless fun doesn't hurt anyone does it?
If the puns posted on here offend you perhaps you shouldn't be logging on to BC. The appreciation of Black humour is very much a part of being British.
