Better zebra for Brockley Cross
The Brockley Cross Master Plan is gradually being implemented - a bit of new pavement here, a new crossing there. One of the earliest jobs completed was one of the most important. The Council has done something about Brockley's scariest zebra crossing, on the approach to Brockley Cross on Brockley Road.
A central island has been installed, calming traffic and offering pedestrians a little more protection. It sums up the Brockley Cross project, which is incrementally improving rather than transformational. But good stuff anyway.

KEY BX IMPROVEMENT
Nice to see work had barely begun on the station repairs of the botched job before they ground to a halt.
Doubt it'll be finished by the Olympics at this rate.
it's a blooming marvel - no more stepping into the jaws of death every time you want to cross the road...Huge improvement from a small change.
Also noticed some exciting looking white spray paint on the road outside Brockley Cross Supermarket. This leads me to believe the next "not quite a crossing" but (what did they call it?) "pedestrian friendly road" should be implemented pretty soon.
Yes, it looks like it's actually going to happen.
The crossing at the bottom of Drakefield Road has been covered in spilt paint for the last year and one of the flashing lights has not worked for months now. It's dangerous enough crossing let alone the now poor road markings and lack of lighting. Yet again Lewisham Council letting us down on the safety front.
The BX crossing is already safer and they haven't done the hi-vis stuff yet.
