Toads Mouth Too closed for refurbishment
A couple of BCers have pointed out that it is remiss of us not to mention that Toads Mouth Too is currently closed for refurbishment. The Brockley Road cafe was recently bought by new owners, who are remodeling it.

Top Chef cafe still serving.
Let's hope the new managers know how to speak to customers - Michele was rude to the point I vowed never to go back there (despite being a regular) until she closed down! Looking forward to somewhere else to go in Brockers!
Will the name change?
How about "The Mung's Bean"?
Do we know what the new owners have in mind for it?
Drop the mung theme please!
I notice that a bit further up Brockley Road, Five Star Food & Wine and Rhythms both seem to have closed. Five Star has a note saying it's for refurbishment, but no sign of any work being done that I've noticed.
Excited to see what becomes of Toad's Mouth Too.
One of the waitresses told me there's going to be a bar in the upstairs bit, with a cafe/bistro below.
I'm looking forward to seeing the result.
I guess it will take a little while for the new owners to put in a new kitchen. Like most eateries around here it was limited by the amount of space available to cook.
I have many happy memories of the Toad, it was quite the most eccentric place in Brockley and I enjoyed many good times.
The place had character and much of that came from the owners and the staff who put so much work into it.
It could be a bit crazy at times but I liked that. It ran on emotional energy that swung between creative brilliance and disaster. It was an Art Cafe and the owners and the staff reflected that ethos.
I hope the new owners are also foodies and bring personality to their new venture. Brockley needs another cool restaurant/bar, there are so few places to get a good dinner.
did somebody mention mung beans?
Brockley theater new play:"Waiting for Lanternot"
Michelle and her man worked incredibly hard to turn that into a thriving business. She was never rude, to me at least. I wish them both well with their new direction in life.
On a personal note. Thanks for all your devotion to Brockley.
"Brockley needs another cool restaurant/bar, there are so few places to get a good dinner."
And Top Chef is that place.
I wish you would nob off you turpid trolling nitwit.
Toad's Mouth was OK (I never had any problem with the staff) - definitely the best local option when it opened, but it feels a tad tired and grubby now, and a bit overpriced compared to the Brockley Mess.
Hope the new owners will do the place justice - it's a great building in a great location, and the garden is one of the few outside spaces where you can eat/drink without traffic thundering past.
Really looking forward to what happens here. I know they had plans to move the kitchen downstairs, I just hope it is open for dinner in the evenings as Brockley desperately needs another decent evening eating and drinking joint. I will miss Michelle and her husband very much. Always lovely to my boyfriend, Dad and baby...and gave me lots of free brownies too!
I will miss the Toads Mouth's fine brunches (and their bloody Marys)
It's a bit of a difficult space, I think. Could really do with more seating and stuff going on upstairs, to pull in passing trade, but then having the kitchen downstairs would make it hard to maximise the use of the garden. Tricky. I look forward to seeing what the new people do with it.
Hoping they bring in some traditional fayre.
Let's hope the vegetarian options are better (oh, what a white middle class thing to say...).
I loved the Toads Mouth - it was the first place we ever went to in Brockley and as previous comments say it wasn't always perfect but overall it was really welcoming, did great cakes and in many ways was very Brockley. Good luck to Michelle and her partner and I look forward to seeing what the new joint has to offer.
I shall miss it. I loved their cheesecake.
I will miss is. the owner was always supernice and helpful, always try to please me...goof luck to them and good luck to us with the new thing coming!
The dinners were often excellent with good sized portions. Moving the kitchen downstairs would have probably made the cooking much easier. Moonbows and TM2 were two developments which greatly added to the area. The amount of work which went into refurbishing TM2 was considerable. I wish Michelle and Kevin good luck for the future.
Fare traditionalists have plenty of local options left!
Does anybody know who is taking it over? I would like to get in touch! Thanks, nic
Yes, I will be posting some more details about this in the coming days.
The fact their information signs appear to be in Comic Sans doesn't fill me with encouragement.
Indeed, you can tell a lot about a business by the effort it puts into its signage.
The Toads Mouth was always held back by the fact that there was hardly any indication it was anything other than a small takeaway.
Is it the same twat / troll who always posts about 'mung' and 'traditional fayre' or many different ones I wonder?
