Bird of Paradise, Brockley Road

Midtown Caribbean restaurant Rhythms closed recently and is reopening this weekend under new management as Bird of Paradise.

The grand opening in on May 26th, from 2-7pm and the promotional flyers promise that the first 25 guests will eat for free.

The restaurant also delivers takeaways and will offer a new menu every day.

Thanks to Jennifer for the info and the photo.

Used to love Rhythms, although the menu used to change from day to day and you never knew what would be cooking on a given day.

Look forward to trying this new place. In my opinion the local West Indian takeaways provide the best value, most delicious and moreover healthy options around.

5 Star Wines next door is re-opening soon too. Nice to see this small parade making comeback...

@14:06 - they should join forces to become "Jerk Me in the Tickle Garden".

Jerk Garden and Jerk Works are very good, yum yum

I like the jerk chicken from jerk garden (i prefer a wet jerk) and the curry goat from nu spice is amazing (with chilli in the rice and peas). Oxtail from either is great.

Jerk pork from Jerkwerk rocks it to the max!

Loving this place! Have been twice since opening - really yummy, good price and very sweet owners/staff! It's a must :-)

Went here tonight and was impressed. Insanely cheap (2 mains and 2 drinks) came to £11.50 and really tasty. We had the steamed bream and a chickpea and sweet potato curry. The staff are really sweet and desperate to make sure we had a great time.

My only worry was how quiet it was - we were the only people in there. I hope it picks up more trade as it is an asset to the area.

This place is very good value, chicken, with rice & peas (kidney beans) with carrot & pot of salad, for £5.00.
The service is incredibly polite, the food is tasty. You get served fast.
And no hipsters!

No hipsters! Well done kolp. Will I have to risk bumping into you and listening to your self important bleating?

"No hipsters" is me taking the mick. Everyone loves hipsters, don't they...

Tried this place for the first time today.

Lovely food and service. Also very cheap, as has been previously mentioned. Highly recommended.

Another vote for Bird Of Paradise. I went there for jerk chicken with rice and peas today and it was the best I have had in a while. The people in there were very friendly too. I hope it is a success!

I have now eaten from this place 3 times. Each time the service has been impeccable; fast and sweet natured. The value extremely good; large portions of good, tasty food.

This is a very good little business. It gets the Kolp seal of approval. (One thing I will say though avoid the jerk chicken if you don't like too barbecued, charcoalic!)

I'd like to see that parade spruced up, it is a bit of an eyesore at the moment. With the railings and the broken pavement.

Some of the shop owners don't seem to care, preferring to use it as a convenient car park.

This looks well worth a punt.  If you like Caribbean food, try Chaconia in Deptford Market, it's a Trinidadian place with a lovely owner and tasty food.  Not a lot of seating available though.....
