Lewisham Council offers discount insulation

Lewisham Council has partners with Saving Energy Ltd to provide discounted insulation for Lewisham residents.

Cavity wall insulation is free and loft insulation is free if the home has less than 60mm of insulation, otherwise it is £179. These costs are flat rates irrespective of the size of the property, resident circumstances or current energy supplier.

The offer runs until September.

Does anyone havea feel for how much one can expect to save by doing it? If it isn't a decent amount per annum, I imagine the trouble and mess will be too much for most people.

They are a bit late. B&Q and British Gas have benn doing this for at least 2 years. I had it for free, my daughter paid £19 (for loft insulation)

Problem is that most buildings in Lewisham are Victorian so don't have cavity walls... Cavity walls were invented in the 1930s-50s I think so I shouldn't think there'll bemuch take up...

There's no trouble or mess. Someone comes & looks in yr attic, tells you if you have to remove anything, junk etc. Then 2 men arrive and lay 6" of insulation. Takes 2 hours I think, they're quick and clean. It must save a lot of money. Cavity wall insulation is pretty unlikely around here as HH says.

Silly question perhaps?...but can you pay a bit extra and have them remove junk for you? The people who lived here before left some - would be a good chance to kill multiple birds...

Similarly, does anyone know if they will leave the insulation for you but not install it? We are supposed to be having the loft boarded out at some point, so might be best to wait until that happens.
