Kids, stay off the skitching

Noel Edmonds: What is Cake? Well, it has an active ingredient which is a dangerous psychoactive compound known as dimesmeric andersonphosphate. It stimulates the part of the brain called Shatner's Bassoon. And that's the bit of the brain that deals with time perception. So, a second feels like a month. Well, it almost sounds like fun...unless you're the Prague schoolboy who walked out into the street straight in front of a tram. He thought he'd got a month to cross the street.

The issue of 'skitching' has been raised on Telegraph Hill ward and the Safer Neighbourhoods Team will be holding two events on:

- Wednesday 25th July at Telegraph Hill Lower Park - A fun day for skateboarders from
- Wednesday 25th July at Queens Road, Somerville Adventure Playground from 12-5pm - free security bike marking for BMXers

These events will promote safe and responsible riding, in and around the parks to reduce issues of anti social behaviour and complaints from the local residents.

Where can I purchase some of this "cake"?

Good idea, but a question – who is holding court on the safe/responsible riding in the park?

The reason I ask is - and call me cynical - I can’t see anyone who is/has been anti-social in the park, sitting down with an ice cream to listen to residents tell them how to behave.

Can we please, please also ensure that whoever is charged with raising issues of the potential danger of all of this – separates the bikes and boards IN the park from the ‘skitching’.

God I feel ridiculous even typing that word. Seriously it is on par with ‘scratchiti’. (an actual reference made on BBC news many years ago for people scratching their tags on the glass windows of trains.)

Oh dear...the hyping of this continues.

No it doesn't. The police have taken a very light-touch approach to this issue and no-one has said anything inflammatory. Except possibly you.

Yes, that was a witty little reference to:

"You're watching Futurama: the show that does not advocate the cool crime of robbery."

Never mind Kolp, better luck next time.

What is skitching? I'm not cool enough to know.

Fortunately I am not kolp.

If I was I'd be an idiot.

But seriously - who ends up with the bill for this?

We do.

Our taxes could be spent on better schools or feeding OAPs.

But no, they're wasted on events to inform morons that being pulled along by a bus is dangerous.

Seriously. If you are too dumb to realise this you frankly deserve the splatting you're risking.

. . . feeding OAPs . . .

the zoos they live in need a lick of paint as well

Love how lou's posts are so full of venom and uncompromising positioning and yet manages to say nothing useful. Lou, if your kids do something stupid and irresponsible (and they will) and they end up hurt, I'll feel a little sad. Most nice people with empathy and a sense of community feel that they have SOME responsibility to safeguard and nurture those who lack maturity. I like that, it's a human enlightened view. You are the worse kind of selfish, insular individual. Stop withy the kids and OAP schtik. You have no interest in anyone except your self. If your kids screw up i even expect that you'd disown them as it would tarnish your overdeveloped sense of perfection.

"Skitching" sounds like it comes from the same mind as "happy slapping" and "miaow miaow"... phrases none of the practitioners use but which can be regularly found in the Daily Mail

I agree with Lou. Kids will always do silly things. Some will get hurt. Throwing money at the problem will not help.

"throwing money at the problem will not help" that is an assertion. "Throwing" resource at it could help actually. You can't stop people smoking but we "threw" money at it and now fewer people smoke including teenagers than 40 years age. Won't stop it of course but to confidently assert that nothing can be done is silly. Please stop.

Is 'resource' a noun?

Yes. Don't bother with the agument though, may be too hard for you

You saw it here first... due South of Brockley in the disputed Catford & HOP borderland that is Blythe Hill Fields (let's not resurrect that debate here)... Outdoor-Pursuit enthusiasts skitching a ride on the back of their mate's QUAD BIKE. Down Stillness Road, up Gladiatior Street, along Codrington, over the park... And repeat!
