Anonymous - an invitation

It has been brought to Brockley Central's attention that some people don't agree with the values, ideas and priorities espoused by this site and some of its readers - that there are hidden costs, unspoken 'agendas' and forgotten issues that we ignore. That's interesting - but the pity is that the Anonyms who offer this perspective (perhaps for reasons of space) rarely get around to explaining what their alternative ideas are.

So this is an invitation to Anonyms everywhere - if you feel that there is another story that needs telling, you're welcome to contribute articles at this address. If they're good, we'll run them.

I suppose it’s the difference between what you think is good and what others feel is good, the two do not necessarily coalesce. I happen to like this blog however having punted up a few ideas of my own to no avail I do not bother any more. It doesn’t stop me from reading and from time to time commenting but does point to a certain editorial bias which may be what the “ Anonyms” are getting at. As for hidden agendas oh do please get over it, I have too many MI5 agents disguised as cups of tea to cope with!!

I occasionally troll and occasionally write constructive comments where merited.

This blog is good for the area, the banter is quite good too.

Brockley Nick said...

"I suppose it’s the difference between what you think is good and what others feel is good,"

Yes, of course. But mostly, that means means readable, coherent and not littered with attacks on people and things.

"having punted up a few ideas of my own to no avail I do not bother any more."

I don't recall the ideas you're referring. You've certainly never sent me an article.

"It doesn’t stop me from reading and from time to time commenting"

Good.

Andy Endwell said...

"I don't recall the ideas you're referring. You've certainly never sent me an article"

Oh dear - so I am either viciously incoherent, utterly insignificant or am just imagining that I have sent things via the “suggest a topic” tab.

Brockley Nick said...

Have you posted an entire article on the "Suggest a topic" page? No. Nor should you - the correct thing to do, if you've written an article, is email it to me.

Andy Endwell said...

Then perhaps it would be helpful to make tyhis clear somwhere?

Brockley Nick said...

Do you mean like this article does or when you click on suggest a topic and it tells you to click here to email us?

No-one has ever posted a full article in the Suggest a Topic box, so I don't think there's a problem.

I THREW THE REST OF THE CAKE TOO - WELCOME TO THE REAL WORLD JACKASS.

I was listening to this song on the platform at Brockley on Saturday. You're a yank comedy geek aren't you? You can come round and watch SNL at mine.

I like this site, it does a good job, but the anger on the comments makes me loathe humans. I moved to Brockley a year ago, and was excited to try stuff out. But knowing how angry people are about local stuff that isn't harming anyone is just sad. Getting angry about runners in parks, for crying out loud.

GROUUUUUUUNNNND.

Anonymous said...

So what you mean is... you can't use Suggest a Topic for suggesting a topic?

Your brain has been addled by poor fare.

Brockley Nick said...

No... let me try again.

This thread is an invitation to people to contribute whole articles, not just suggestions about what I should write about.

Lots of people contribute suggestions in all sorts of ways. No one has ever tried to post a whole article in the suggestions box.

The blog doesn't "do" anything. It's a platform for making some posters look foolish by there own actions. It's a great resource, in a sense the bike it attracts from the misanthropic minority is a measure of it's sucess. The dull blogs get ignored. Alternative SE4 is another local blog, you need to register and its much more agenda led. As a result, it's hardly read.

Nick is thick skinned enough to not bother with the idiots, sadly they have no idea how silly they appear.

Bike? BILE! Although attracting bikes would be cool

Nick,

It is very selfless of you to offer the shouty types and conspiracy nuts the opportunity to turn you carefully crafted community notice board into their own personal soapbox but just what what kind of articles are you expecting to receive?

I can't tell if this is a terrible idea or genius.

Nick knows what he is doing. He is a highly skilled and paid professional PR.
FACT.

Mulder & scully said...

Whereas you are typing like a talented chimp. Yes, the well put together blog demonstrates that he has some talent. Why should being a PR professional exclude him from running a blog? You seem to use it. Don't if you think there is something sinister going on. Most blogs ask for registration on and moderate far more stringently. That s a FACT.

please list an acceptable range of professions for a blog owner. What do you do for a living? Are you as open about your name and transparent about your job and clients? How do we know you don't run a rival blog? I don't think you do because I don't harbour conspiracy theories.

Ask me to submit a well written article for consideration? I throw that sh1t on the ground! Who are you trying to fool Mr Hot Bog Seller...

kolp said...

Related to this topic.
Trolling is often self-perpetuating. I don't come on here to troll. Yet I am continually labelled as such.

The worst I do is have a bit of light fun and I mean light, such as the "Art with a capital F" comment with was banned for some reason??

And this thing about Nick being selfless. For some reason, Nick seems to seek "kolp" out for abuse. Repeated deletions, unprovoked snide comments. And then there's what I call the "attack dogs" I'll not name them, but you know who I mean.

NAT said...

Ah Kolp...

Not an article submission, but an idea for a topic as such: I'd like to see Brockley Central properly review a local 'honest fare' type establishment.

All too often on BC the reviews revolve around the "nice things" - delis, muffins, little cups of tea, that sort of thing. Which is nice in every sense of the word... can be a little without edge and a little bland.

I'd love to see BC turn up to somewhere like Top Chef and without prejudice order something like an all day breakfast and properly review it on its merits. Let's all help Brockley businesses!

Anonymous said...

I've eaten there. It's a standard cafe, nothing special, nothing terrible. Is BC supposed to be like the yellow pages? Listing every shop with equal prominence? Top chef guy is joking (badly) it's the same as the other greasy spoons in London.

Still, why not post an extensive and detailed review? It would be dull though.

kolp said...

I think class comments are legitimate on this site. Brockley as an area has a tradition of being a politically conscious area. People into the area should know that.
My issue with the so called "class war" comments are they are lacking in erudition.
I want a proper Marxist analysis of what's happening to this area, made apparent in these comments.

More often than not we have the right wing version or neo-liberal which is even more distasteful because it so agnostic and mealy mouthed...

Anonymous said...

Eh? Apart from a few vocal free marketeers, most on here are fairly liberal (not in the neo economic sense) so are the articles actually.

@Kolp - sounds great, go for it! I look forward to your submission.

Nick, nice try but it means you or one of the other regulars sampling the fare.

Tressilliana said...

Anon/Honest Fare Troll, firstly you are talking about food. Why not say so? Constantly talking about fare makes you sound like a fool, which I'm sure is not what you want.

Secondly, you are a regular on this site. You post here almost as much as Nick. Why don't you write a review and send it to Nick, as he has just suggested?

Brockley Nick said...

Are you paying for my meal then?

Anonymous said...

Can you not afford it?

Brockley Nick said...

Yes thanks. So, to be clear. You care deeply about Top Chef's representation, but not so deeply that you're willing to do anything about it yourself of course.

Instead, you want me to pay to go and then write a review myself (noting that I rarely write reviews of local cafes or restaurants of any kind).

Your passion is truly moving. But I don't think you've understood the point of this thread.

kolp said...

what? spend my time, crafting comments and then getting deleted and then told to email Nick to find out why. Nope.

Unless I find out on here specifically why "art with a capital F" comment was deleted. The deletion policy is simply too capricious and seemingly based on a personal vendettas/whims for me to use up my time in that way.

Brockley Nick said...

@Kolp, ah well, you've denied yourself the pleasure of seeing precisely the kind of analysis you crave.

PS - any time you want the a particular moderation decision explained to you, just get in touch, I will be happy to explain via email. As I do for others who query decisions.

Your loss dude.

What we have here is Anons (and Kolp) living up to the caricature in the video. A massive sense of entitlement and hilariously incoherent rage.

Nick, let me guess how many article submissions you've had from anons as a result of this invitation...

Ah the arrogance is palpable. kolp is the holder of THE GREAT TRUTH and will dispense it only to the deserving or if we ask nicely. kolp, please. The country is in crisis, plumbers merchants are being hounded out of business by the hipster/met police cartel. On you can remove the scale from our eyes.

Actually, don't bother. I enjoy being plugged into the Matrix.

Nick I just want to say thanks for writing this blog, I think is excellent and must take a lot of time and work. I think the comments on here are mostly really great to read, but I think some people defo need to chill out and lay off Nick, if you hate him so much you should maybe just not read the blog!!!! Keep up the good work. From an ex-Goldsmiths convict still living on Jerningham road

I would really like to see the blog reach accross sectarian lines a bit more - only this year we've seen Martin McGuinness shake hands with the Queen. So maybe it's time for a member of the Mung Bean Elite's Army Council to sit down with a dinner from Lion's to show unity with True Brockley.

Ian on the Hill said...

"specifically why "art with a capital F" comment was deleted"

A staggering lack of humour I'd assume.

True Green said...

We in the joint command of the Continuity Mung Bean Army and Real Mung Bean Army reject all such calls for reconciliation with the yanky empirialist forces of fast food oppression. Only when honest fayreism has been driven from this once free and organic land will Mungs live again in freedom and dignity and our heirs run free on the fourth green (Hilly) field.

kolp said...

A staggering lack of humour I'd assume.

Ha!

Firstly I don't come on here to crack gags.

And frankly if comments are being deleted on the basis of being unfunny, there's going to be tumbleweed rolling in the comments section and Nick will have a sore hand...

headhunter said...

Oh God the whole mung bean thing is back... That got boring about 4 years ago....

kolp said...

I see nothing wrong with the Honest Food Movement, HFM, apart from the repetition which could get boring, (but just as people banging about any type of food would).

The issue really lies with people getting angry at these comments. Why?
