Hilly Fields market update

I just want to give some love to the Hilly Fields Farmers Market, which is a great little market and does cheap, good quality local fruit & veg. They have recently added a couple of new craft & second hand stalls and have relocated next to Pistachio's cafe, which seems to have helped drive numbers up, so I thought another mention on this site would be timely.
It's on the second Saturday of every month from 10am-3pm and if I had a choice I'd basically never buy veg anywhere else. On the third Saturday of the month, the same market sets up in Telegraph Hill lower park.

Moving next to the cafe is a smart move, I may give them another go
Agreed. It also shows why the cafe is important - not just as a nice place to go, but as a focal point for other activity in the park.
When I visited the Hilly Fields market last month I was pleased to see that it is still going and hasn't had to stop as a result of the new market.
It didn't seem to have many stalls on my visit which was a shame. But I want to keep supporting it!
And they go to Manor Park on the first Saturdays.
The Game stall is excellent - cottage pie made with minced venison is something else again - and the fruit and veg chap sells Kentish Cob Nuts in season. Again, something I look forward to on an annual basis.
So we've already missed the October market?
Markets are popping up everywhere and they are good thing. As they help to counterpoint the homogenising activities of the big supermarkets in the grocery sector.
Suggest dates are better than this second Saturday malarkey....
The Manor Park / Hilly Fields / Telegraph Hill bunch have been around for about five or six years.
No, dates are not better - errors can creep in in the process of reportage, anyone can work out the "second Saturday malarky" for themselves.
Jason, you haven't missed the October market in Telegraph Hill - it's this coming Saturday, 20th October (being the third Saturday in the month, although aguably the fourth weekend - the 1st October being a Sunday)
the veg people are lovely -- jackie and mike -- really friendly and helpful, and the veg is of much better quality than the non-organic stall at brockley market. especially the fruit. And the bread is slightly less price-gouging than that at BM. i wish instead of adding craft/nicknacks the market organisers had added a cheese stall, but hey ho. we follow it round 3 weeks of the month. its ace.
You need to find a cheese stall willing to be added... It used to have Dales Farm (?) attending - with rather nice goats cheese of various varieties.
The olive and garlic chap does really lovely Fetta.
