Brockley Central drinks tonight - at The Orchard

Due to "circumstances beyond our control", we have had to find a new venue for tonight's Brockley Central Drinks, which had been scheduled to take place at Jam Circus at 8pm.

Happily, The Orchard team have stepped up and we will be holding BC Drinks in their bar area from 8pm tonight. Thanks to Ed and the team for moving things around at short notice. We hope to see as many of you there tonight as possible.

OK, I'll be the first to say it (and will immediately be called a grump) - but The Orchard? Seriously?? It's tiny!

You said in earlier messages, you were expecting 50-100 people. Orchard is usually busy most nights, has 2 toilets and seating for diners. With other, bigger pubs in the area such as The Talbot, Brockley Jack & Ladywell Tavern, what was the rationale behind the choice?

What about Gulen's? Its usually pretty empty during the week and is a brand new bar needing support.

Other anon deleted their comment, but also mentioned Ravensbourne Arms and Catford Bridge Tavern (outside area but massively topical), also Royal Albert. All bigger

@SLB - The venue will be large enough. We have done two events at both The Talbot and The Ladywell Tavern in the past. We are taking BC Drinks to a new venue right in the middle of where BC readers tend to live. The move was forced on us at short notice, so I am very grateful to The Orchard for being accommodating. In the unlikely event that people are spilling out the door on a Monday night, this has the added advantage of being next to other bars / pubs that could manage the overspill.

BC drinks is moving to a bi-monthly format, so there is plenty of opportunity to take it to the other venues you mention.

I look forward to the overspill into the Barge. Will bring that fun "will we or won't we be stabbed" element. Let's not be too gratiating for the Orchard accomodating. It's not a difficult choice - masses of people unexpectedly for drinks on a Monday.

See you later boys & girls.

Yes, heaven forbid we should be too nice and appreciative to anyone for sorting this all out.

Thank you Nick. You are lovely and I will buy you a drink later for being a shitty, sarcy, hormonal cow xx

@SLB, I don't know what you're worried about, it'll be just like a ride on your favourite morning Overground service! ;)

To Saarf London Bird - Please don't go to the Barge. There will be real South Londoners there.

@Brockley Jon - it won't be the same unless the very tall, very cute young man from the Overground is in the Orchard for me to stare at.....

Brilliant, I've never been to The Orchard and always thought it looked inviting when waiting at the busstop!

I wonder if the Brockley Central class war troll will be there?

So why no feed back on the drinks evening?
Did any one turn up?

Brockley Nick said...

It was good thanks. Lots of people. A nice night. We all fitted.

It was good, lots of chat.

A bit snug around the bar at times, but they were very welcoming.

Should have these things a bit more often.

Yet another libel published about the most successful pub restaurant in Brockley. I wonder if such comments would be allowed about any of the other newer bars in Brockley. I would guess not. Seems class prejudice is alive and well in the 21st Century.

'the most successful pub restaurant in Brockley'

I wonder if the violent attack witnessed by many regulars, the subsequent taping off of the road outside by the police investigating an attempted kidnapping might have had some effect on the trade.

yeah, there was that...

Brockley only has 2 real restaurants (Barge and Top Chef) so it's vital we support them. Any incidents that happened to occur in the Barge were a result of customers - not of fare.

Just a thought - but bearing in mind that they are are real asset to the area and the wonderful wine shop is about to be late/lamented, would it not have been nice to consider Mr Lawrence wine bar as a venue?

The bar is not closing.

Looks like whatever upset the 'pitchfork man' who ran down Brockley Rd causing mayhem started off with an argument in the Barge.

If he is not careful such behaviour could get him barred.
