Masons: The Lost Symbol

BCers report that the Masonic bodge may be about to be fixed. Two readers witnessed movement inside Masons restaurant in Ladywell, which closed in 2011. There were, apparently "men with clipboards" walking around inside last night who "looked like builders".

This is perhaps not the most compelling evidence that a reopening is on the cards, but given that it's lain completely dormant for more than a year, it's encouraging to see some interest in the property, which occupies a prime spot in Ladywell.

With thanks to Daryl and Patrick.

Hope this is true, it's a key property to Ladywell

Got everything crossed that this is true!  The deteriorating flowers on Mason's tables have been a silent 'art installation' vigil to a lovely restaurant.  Let's hope it sees life again soon!

From the bus yesterday evening I saw a guy in a suit very animated as he expressed his view, whilst three other guys looked on in serious contemplation... My money is on that guy making something happen

Really hope that this is the start of it reopening as something the area can be proud of!!

Would be amazing for it to reopen as a restaurant by the spring, saw them yesterday on way back from the station. That suited clipboard wielding guy looks like he can mae stuff happen!

Didn't someone say plans were ongoing for a kfc or McDonald's? I hope I'm wrong., area needs a nice bar, gastropub.

One of the men was clearly showing the others around and was pointing at tables and various areas of the restaurant. Fingers crossed that means a refurb and a new restaurant/bar is on the cards

Hopefully not another fried chicken shop!

I saw it on another forum, but may have been a wind up. I'd love a place like the Orchard in Brockley. Would really take the area to another level.

Can't see it being a McDonald's - I don't think there is the footfall. I thought you were on a windup though.

I would genuinely like somewhere that does good pizzas at reasonable prices - perhaps out of an oven like they have at Franco Manca in Brixton. I'm sure they'd do well as there's not much competition in that particular type of food round here.

Empty shops aren't good... but does Ladywell really need another pub?  The Ladywell Tavern and The Ravensourne Arms are both great pubs serving a decent selection of ales, good food inc. amazing sunday lunches and have a nice friendly atmosphere.  Another pub would just dilute the atmosphere in these already quiet pubs.

I think more of an Orchard style place - food first but the ability to just go in for a drink if you want is what's needed there. Not directly competing with the pubs and hopefully will draw more people to Ladywell who then go into the pubs before/after/on another visit as well.

I saw planks of wood on the floor (that hadn't been there previously) and 3-4 men chatting in there with clip boards on Monday evening. Fingers crossed it is something good. A pizza restaurant (or any form of restaurant/bar really) would be amazing. There is real demand for this in the area.

A Pizza Express would be amazing.

Or the much called for KFC which has been overdue in Brockley for some time.

We've got a KFC not very far away on Lewisham High Street. I don't think they're going to build one that close to one they already have. You'd have to say that Ladywell is already pretty well served for fried chicken.

It would be brilliant news if 'Masons' was open again. But I think we have some good Italians already. 'La Querce' next door at Crofton Park is fantastic and I've heard good things about the Italian in Brockley unless I'm mistaken??

Would love it if Mo Pho relocated here. Their current location is too small...and I'm too lazy to walk there

Is there anyway we can find out?

A sushi train would be good.

Ok - spoke to the new manager and he is planning on opening a French patisserie place which would be nice for the area I think. Healthy compeition and all that

As jogged past tonight the new patisserie was looking really good. Some new sign writing has appeared on the windows, in classic French bistro style, promising crepes, bread, cakes and pastries.

There looks like there will be lots of space to sit inside too. All shaping up to be an excellent addition to the area.
