Brockley Cross late night roadworks for the next four nights

In case you were wondering why you couldn't drive through Brockley Cross last night (or sleep, if you live nearby), the answer is that the final stage of roadworks in the Brockley Cross redevelopment project is taking place at night.

The late-night work will continue between the hours of 8pm and 5am until Thursday.

PLEASE say the zebra crossing is on its way? If I dice with death to cross the road to make my train one more time I may scream.

Any idea on the rationale for the work being carried out between 8pm and 5am as opposed to, say 9am and 6pm (aside from annoying motorists with a diversion) assuming it's to do with costs but hard to appreciate that with little or no sleep...

I really appreciate that the work needs to be done, but why Lewisham Council think that keeping people up all night for five nights is more acceptable than creating a diversion round the works during the day is beyond me.

Aww stop moaning. They gotta it done sometime! I live next to noisy neighbours 7 days a week. I wish for 5 days
and it's over!

I suspect it may have something to do with this new payment scheme designed to discourage utility companies from leaving roadworks in place for ever and a day.

Seems a sensible step forward.  But clearly there are winners and losers.
