Brockley Councillor Foxcroft selected as our next MP*

Cllr Vicky Foxcroft has been chosen from a list of six women to replace Dame Joan Ruddock as Labour's next Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Lewisham Deptford, and thus our next MP.

Ruddock was not the most visible MP, so it will be nice to have a Brockley resident in the role after the next election.

UPDATE: *Please note, this headline is intended to be a damning satirical indictment of the effect that the combination of the FFP electoral system and party political tribalism has on local politics. It does not mean that BC is happy about the fact that the result is a certainty.

Well done Vicky!

I know it is a foregone conclusion, but surely the title should be 'selected as the next Labour candidate for MP', or will no public vote be required?

I look forward to a question in the house regarding shop front design, kids in cafes and the price of latte.

Ah, but it's very tongue-in-cheek, Lorna! I bridled for a moment when I read the headline, but then when I read it through, it actually made me laugh. I'm very far from being a Labour supporter myself, but I do know that anything other than a Labour MP for us is stupendously unlikely! But you never know, I suppose - the LibDems might have a resurgence or the Tories might not have torn themselves apart :)

Hasn't there also been a bit of a boundary adjustment which might make things a little less boring.

And UKIP might take a few labour votes I S'pose

Would be funny if Nigel Farage turned up at the Orchard for a photo opportunity (he always seems to be drinking pints).

Bordeaux a l'Autre Cote, I believe, still we should be able to entertain him should he turn up.

Excellent strategic move Nick.

I have already seen her brownshirts patrolling the streets of Greater Brockley keeping residents safe.

Can't wait for the victory drinks at the Rivoli Bürgerbräukeller.

I just assumed that as an independent local forum, impartiality was inferred. My bad.

As you know, I regularly editorialise about issues, so I cannot claim to be impartial. I have opinions and I offer them from time to time.

I don't strive for impartiality, I strive for objectivity. And an objective analysis of the electoral history of this constituency and the current state of the polls suggests this is as near an electoral certainty as it's possible to get that Labour will win this seat. Saying as much does not betray any bias - as I say, it's at least as unhelpful to Labour as it is helpful. It's just fact, and I don't apologise for pointing it out.

Or... It's all to play for in what is set to be the most nail-biting electoral race of all time.

a "daming...indictment" of an electoral system that we had only a couple of years ago a national referndum on, when it was wholeheartedly supported. And how can party political tribalism mean anything other than the good people of Lewisham Deptford tend to vote Labour. Given over 99% of them will not belong to any political party I really don't understand...
