What is going on in Brockley these days?! Stupefied to read about shooting incidents here, is it still safe around here?

It's about as safe as most places in London

The Brockley Barge seems to be the place where a lot of these incidents happen. Some of its customers like to live on the edge. Avoid the Barge in the early hours and the dodgy shops and takeaways used as a cover for dodgy dealings by our local community criminals and the rest of Brockley is quite peaceful.

The incident last Christmas when some madman went beserk outside the Barge, while the gentlefolk of Brockley enjoyed a Christmas Fayre with carol singing by the station was the sort of contrast you find in a David Lynch movie.

Most of the time these worlds never meet.

Why did you use your street as your name?

I saw two gentlemen arguing outside the barge while I drank my flickyourbean overpriced coffee and nearly dropped my £4 loaf of artisan bread.

Perhaps it is time to change management at the Barge...

There is something in your comment that rings of being both incisive and pertinent .....

Nothing wrong with the management. It's the cliental who frequent the place. Who starts drinking alcohol at 8.30am!

As if often the case when the Barge is mentioned regarding crime, it didn't happen there and had nothing to do with the pub or it's customers. I've talked to the Barge manager and it appears someone was stabbed through a car window outside Brockley Station.

Oops. Errant apostrophe.

I guess if it happened outside, the pub staff are unlikely to know anything other than rumours. The police report says in happened on Brockley Rd, not by the station. Either way it sounds dramatic and The Brockley Barge has seen quite a lot of drama. I am sure the staff do the best job they can, but there is no escaping the fact that they are in the business of selling cheap beer to rough customers who have tendency to settle their disputes with extreme prejudice.

There is a bit of a constant undertone on the posts about the Barge that it's too declasse for Brockley.
It's a Wetherspoons: it charges up to £2 less a pint that other local drinkeries for the same pint, it has a better range of real ales than pretty much any other local pub, it has a whole variety of customers - which certainly includes families these days - and it manages to retain some of the features of a traditional local.

"There is a bit of a constant undertone on the posts about the Barge that it's too declasse for Brockley." If you mean the articles, that's rubbish.

Certainly nothing wrong with the Barge. Had many a late night drink in there. Brockley Kate's pub of choice.

If there was decent pub, i will not be walking so quickly past it after work to eat my quiche, peruvian asparagus and glass of Proseco on Hillyfields.
