Brockley Market's 2nd Birthday Celebration, September 21st

Brockley Market will be two years old on September 21st. They've launched a new website to mark the occasion and are planning a few special touches to celebrate on the day, including fluffy bun-servers Yum Bun (tried them in Greenwich and they were delicious) and some surprise events. Luardos (the Mexican street food van) will return from September 21st for autumn and winter.

Is there anything finer on a Saturday morning than a Mother Flipper burger (other food choices are available) and Coffee at Brockley Market? Follow that by loading up on goodies for the weekend, and one's life is materially improved.

Long live Brockley Market.

not as impressed with Mother Flipper as I was 2 years ago. The market starts at 10.00am, yesterday at 10.15 Mother flipper said it would take another 10 mins before they could take orders. £7 quid for a burger often burnt in places & no drink is not a great deal.

On a sunny day the market is gorgeous, gorgeous people indulging in lifestyle supplement pursuits,

10.25am before you could have your first burger of the day!? What a scandal!

Bought a bacon sandwich from Central Cafe the other day, bacon cooked crispy as requested on crusty white bread with brown sauce mmm and only £2. Not the flashiest of cafes but the service was friendly and sandwich perfect.

Doesn't get more honest than that.

I do agree with treale's frustration over food stall opening times. I have been very frustrated when I've turned up at 10am, and then had to wait 20 mins to order. You wouldnt' put up with it at a pub/restaurant, so why put up with it at a market?

I would put up with it in a pub or restaurant.

You are very forgiving.

I doubt you've had to forgive too many pubs or restaurants, as generally they provide food when they say they will. That's all I ask - food when promised.

Just be thankful that Motherflipper grace us with their presence. Very easy to take the Market and various stall holders for granted. I for one welcome our new motherflippin' burgerlords.

I suppose if they had a sign up saying "Burgers from 10am" then I would agree with the criticism. But otherwise it seems quite reasonable that they would not be ready until 10.30am to serve massive great burgers.

I am grateful. As per Nick's last post, I shall now adjust my expectations. No longer do I think that stalls at Brockley market, which advertises itself as opening at 10am, will sell things at 10am. I shall turn up at 10am and hang around, gratefully, until someone deigns to sell me something. It was, after all, silly of me to think that a team of burger sellers could be capable of selling "massive great burgers" at the early hour of 10am.

You can expect it if you like. Just be philosophical about it if your expectations are not met and you have to wait a few minutes. I trust you berate McDonald's for not serving burgers before 10.30am either, given that the world's biggest burger seller ought to be able to rustle you up a Big Mac at ten in the morning.

Mcdonalds are quite transparent in the fact that their breakfast menu ends at 10.30 (I believe). Therefore, if I rock up at 10.30, I can be confident that I will obtain a burger, as advertised, and go my merry way. There's no confusion, and no wasted time.

Until I adjusted my expectations, I hoped for the same sort of transparency from the food sellers of Brockley Market. After all, they are competing with Mcdonalds, sort of. I guess I didn't realise what a complex logistical task making take out food was.

Not like you to throw your support behind the dishonest fare lobby, Nick?

The fact is if a market is open at 10, then you are subject to the hours of that market and should be ready to trade as such. It's a simple expectation that a reasonable man would make.

Top Chef had no trouble cooking me a full English at 8 this morning complete with a large mug of tea.

That's a straw man argument Nick (see, I can say that too!) as McDonalds are at least serving food during all hours of them being open.
