The Ladywell Tavern (and maybe Jam Circus) will be back

Kate from The South London Press has managed to get a quote from Enterprise Inns, the owners of the Ladywell Tavern, confirming that the pub (which closed last weekend) will reopen. She writes:

A spokeswoman for Enterprise Inns said the company had received no interest from Tesco, adding: “The publican of the Ladywell Tavern has only ceased trading temporarily; minor works are being carried out on site and our aim is for the pub to resume trading as soon as possible.”

There's more evidence that the local drinking scene doesn't face The World's End, the departing team at The Catford Bridge Tavern have been talking a good game on Twitter, saying that their next move will be to reopen Crofton Park's Jam Circus.

"We have put our licence application in for Mr Lawrence's Wine Shop in Brockley, so hopefully before October Brockley will have a lovely Beer Rebellion. We are in talks about a permanent place in Gipsy Hill, another little place in Anerley and Peckham."

There's signs all over the building indicating that the Ladywell Tavern is now being squatted ("this building is occupied") and the like which would suggest it's more than just closed for a refurbishment. I hope I'm wrong about this but that's what it looks like.
I hope this is sorted out as I really enjoyed the Ladywell Tavern, is seemed like a genuine pub for the community and it often had a fine atmosphere. I'm checking it out every time I pass.

Just walked past the Tavern and there were a group of teenagers sitting outside who I'd assume have squatted the Tavern. I read the notice on the windows and it confirms what Scott Wood says in his post that they have squatted. Not sure how long it takes to get rid of squatters from a commercial property I know the Tories sped up the procedure for getting them out of a residential property last year. This is a real damn shame especially after getting our hopes up with the quote from the brewery in the South London Press.

The pub is not being squatted. It is to cover the tenants who still live above the from potential squatters whilst the building looks empty. The landlord and staff have started stripping down the pub as part of the refurbishment an were working on it last night
