Hilly Fields tree wreckage

Courtesy of Fred Pearce
Brockley is a Green Zone at the moment, with trees down all over SE4 as a result of this morning's storm. Fred sent us this photo of a fallen mature tree in Hilly Fields. Up to four Hilly Fields trees have been reported lost by BC readers today.

Lewisham Council also confirms that "Ladywell & Brockley Cemetery is closed today because of fallen and unsafe trees."

Such a shame to lose these mature trees... Hopefully they'll be replaced and not snapped off. It sounded pretty crazy through the night, I was really worried that some of the big trees in the gardens behind us would come down but luckily only some trellis and ivy/jasmine collapsed...

Tree came down in Tressillian and some section of wall. I have a very large ash in my back garden, which although creaked and groaned and lost some branches, survived it.

Spoke to GreenScene this morning and apparently there were 80 trees down in the borough.

A cedar tree would be a fantastic long term addition to the Park.

Just out of curiosity, why a cedar in particular?
