Coulgate Street project gets funding

TfL has announced that its budget for the financial support of local projects is frozen for the next three years, but that the Coulgate Street makeover project will get the money it needs to proceed. The release says the funding includes:

£280,000 for public realm improvements in Coulgate Street adjacent to Brockley Common in Lewisham to enhance the pedestrian environment. Works will include improved footpaths, planting new trees and reducing times on waiting bays. One way traffic will also be implemented.

Hope they don't make as much of a mess of it as the ongoing carnage in Ladywell!

That sounds like an awful lot of money to do not that much, and I'm sure the council will still get Conway to do it and it will still take six months longer than it needs to. No wonder the country's skint. I thought it was going to be pedestrianised anyway, guess not.

What about pedestrianizing it? Can anyone comment?

Pedestrianisation might be tough with the station and Speedicars but there should be no parking, just limited waiting to allow pick up and drop offs... Currently it's mostly a dumping ground for "hire" vans and cars with ads on them...

Does sound like a lot simply to make the road 1 way... Unless they are completely re-tarmacking it and repainting the road markings I suppose, but even then... I guess that's the going rate for a council project these days

Are the plans available to see somewhere? Would be a shame for such an opportunity to make a real new improved impact to the area go amiss. As apparently the oldest street in Brockley, would be good if it could become a cobbled entry point to Brockley.

I agree. Now is our collective chance to shout very loudly if we don't like the plans, and have specific requests. I think pedestrianisation is well well worth consideration or alternatively some sort of parking restriction. I wonder who we speak to or where we go?

I would start with your local Councillors. Hopefully they will allow 2 way cycling given that its on the cycle network.

Wonder if those tinkers will get a building contract out of this. Tammany Hall know how spread the lolly with their mates.

What is it with Lewisham and those travellers?

I am confused, I though there was already plan agreed for this street. Is this the same plan, but funded now by TFL or TFL is doint its own thing without asking anyone?
