Super-sized Meze Mangal opens

The Meze Mangal sea container has been replaced by a brick
The new Meze Mangal is now open. The much-loved Turkish restaurant has doubled in size by expanding next door, got rid of the sea container that used to live outside like their entrance like a guard heffalump and modernised the decor. It looks like it's lost a little in terms of intimacy, but the overall effect is impressive and it's already bringing new life to this stretch of Lewisham Way.

Review to come! Thanks to Matt.

The container has gone? How will people find the restaurant without this iconic landmark to guide them? I hope they have a big sign to replace this striking artifact. Maybe they can sell small souvenir toy containers on the opening night so patrons are reminded of this much discussed piece of street art. Is this the beginning of a trend towards the gentrification of Lewisham Way?

Great news for New Cross.

What are their prices like now? Have they significantly increased?

I went in there tonight for a takeaway and happy to inform that prices are the same, menu is the same and the excellent quality is the same. Welcome back MezeMangal. We missed you.

Welcome back, with such a poor offering available in New Cross and Brockley this was sorely missed. Definitely a place that isn't style over substance although now quite stylish!

The prices have changed I notice.
We paid above £70 for three meals; two adults and a child portions, startes, and a great wine.
The food and the service as usual were excellent.
They have done a terrific job on the place - and the toilets may also force places like Jam Circus to think about what it 'spends' there.
The only downside is that the heating wasn't working, so a few diners, myself included, kepts our coats and scarves on!
Great to see it back though. It has really lifted that part of Lewisham Way, which is actually giving other parts of Brockley a run for its money.

"Sea container" doesn't make sense. It was a shipping container.

Trade names sometimes become nouns.

If you can't get a table there or are closer to Brockley Station, try the new Gulens restaurant. Went there today. Lovely food, lovely couple running it. Starer, mixed grill and a glass of wine for £11!
