The bad drivers of Deptford

The Guardian has a breakdown of penalty points held by UK driving licence holders. Deptford stands out as one of the worst parts of London for bad drivers (those with penalty points against their name), with nearly 10% of its 10,000 licence holders having had at least one penalty in the last three years.

So that's more or less the same as Catford then?

How does Deptford fit that analysis?

The insinuation from your comment is that speeding is harmless. I hate this attitude among motorists that somehow they are needlessly victimised by the authorities for driving "harmlessly" over the speed limit. Speeding equals (one example of) bad driving. End of story. There's nothing scarier as a pedestrian or cyclist than having some idiot, most likely talking on a mobile, speeding past in 2 tonnes of metal and glass. AFAIC the police should stop more of these and give out more fines...

Impossible to tell the extent to which this reflects the quality of driving or the quality of policing/enforcement. It's hopeless round here. A friend and I were spat at from a passing car on Brockley Rd a few months ago (they drove off laughing), I got the FULL license plate and rough description of vehicle, but the police refused to follow it up because I couldn't give them the exact colour/model of the car. Contrast this with the occasion when a driver hurled abuse at me near Blackfriars when he'd made an illegal turn and was driving through a busy pedestrian crossing while the green man was lit, and I stood for one second in front of his vehicle and pointed at the green man. I reported it online, assuming I'd never hear any more, and an hour later got a call from an inspector in the City or Met Police (can't remember which) who was very sympathetic, and said they'd already spoken to the employer of the driver, who was going to follow it up with the driver, and asking if I wanted to make a formal complaint (I didn't).

That wasn't my insinuation at all, more a comment that I think the data is more linked to the areas those people drive, rather than any ability factor of the driver. I personally never speed and would never defend anybody speeding.

Most points are received for speeding.

If you get over 10mph in the City then you're doing well, whereas if you have driven on the main road north of the Blackwall Tunnel heading towards the M11 then you'll see a lot of speed cameras and a lot of morons going at some very high speeds, nearing 3 figures (normally people who know the roads, i.e. locals to that area). This area as such has a higher proportion of people with points, i.e. speeding issues.

Catford similarly has some long stretches or heavily speed camera roads, with a 30mph speed limits and idiots driving fast in low traffic areas. Deptford similarly has some stretches such as Evelyn Street, which are relatively low in traffic, but high in cameras and also provides easy access to the Blackwall Tunnel, so could be affected similarly to the north of Blackwall drivers.

If you're in that position again this site will give you make and model for any reg

http://www.askmid.com/ownvehicle/

then go to this site which will give you colour and other details

https://www.taxdisc.direct.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/app/enquiry?execution=e1s1

and if it is a new car this site will tell you which garage it was bought from

Would be surprised if half the drivers in Deptford even had licences.

Peckham is almost as bad. Some folk think they can park and stop wherever they want, no matter how obviously dangerous.

I wish they would put speed cameras on Brockley Rd towards Brockley Cross. It is an accident black spot and is quite deadly.
