Conway remain king of Lewisham's roads

Homer: Ooh, look at me! I'm making people happy! I'm the Magical Man from Happy-Land, in a gumdrop house on Lollipop Lane... Oh, by the way: I was being sarcastic.

- The Simpsons, Flaming Moe's

In recognition of their consistently excellent work across the borough, delivering projects on time, on budget, to a high standard and with minimal disruption, Conway has been awarded a seven year contract with Lewisham Council, worth £3 million a year to maintain the borough's roads.

I'm put in mind of Tom Lehrer's response when Henry Kissinger won the Nobel Peace Prize - satire has become obsolete.

Would be nice if they actually finished off the work in Ladywell that started last April.

Shouldn't they be made to fix the lake by Brockley station first? Again...

7 year contract actually means 10 year contract.

Who wanted to use pavements or roads anyway?

What a load of Conway!

They spent two years messing around outside Shakespeares Globe were a year late with public realm works supposed to have finished for the Olympics and started their pneumatic drills during almost every performance. They never had more than three men working out there at any one time and are the most hopeless contracting company ever. Bullock must be getting kickback!

They actually started the Ladywell work last February so it's their anniversary soon. Shall we all club together to buy them some flowers and a card? Think they deserve it after all the time and effort they've spent on it ;-$

How much do they pay in kickbacks to the Council to take us citizen for a ride when justifying the Con Way for the 7 years.

Conway is a good company and they do good work.

The interesting fact is that the overwhelming majority of people continue to vote Bullocks and company. Sad!

There are so many reasons to get angry at this, but the thing that's particularly getting on my nerves at the moment is the phrase "our unique approach to self-delivery of all services".

What the hell is that supposed to mean?

I think it means they just do whatever they like, safe in the knowledge they'll be awarded a new contract regardless of how badly they screwed up the previous one.
"There's 3 ways to do things, the right way, the wrong way and the Con way." I think Homer Simpson said that.

Talking of corporate responsibility, have Citigroup peed on Lewisham again?
They were on the Urban Regeneration Board for Lewisham Gateway and must have known their plans to vacate Citi Tower, which happened very quietly.
They built a huge data centre on Molesworth Street, in return for giving advice to the Regen Board?
Quietly they vacated Riverdale House now leaving that empty and last year were given prior approval to convert the building into 97 flats. Not happy with that, money grabbers CitiGroup have now applied to convert the building into 139 'microflats'.
Citigroup seem to have been bad for Lewisham and continue to blight the area.

Does this mean employment opportunities for local people for the next 7 years? Doubtful but the only possible silver lining to this cloud

I doubt it if any SE4 residents would want to work for Conway.
The only advantage for working with Conway is that u will have a job for life!
Lewisham Council only seems to award contracts to Conway!

I've been to The Conway's house (well estate really). It is massive. I'm sure this contract will pay for the upkeep of the gardens for a few more years.

Conway dont do garden maintenance. U thinking of Glendale who do!

I've got to the stage that I applaud as I walk by if I see anyone working. A whole year to work on a couple of hundred yards of road. And it's still not complete. It's an achievement and they should be congratulated.

I think that the Conway family may own a large house with gardens.
And Glendale's maintenance is also a matter of opinion.
