Brockley Barwatch [UPDATED]

Lots is happening at the moment.

Little Nan's Bar is still being coy about the location of its new Brockley bar, but we do have an opening date - May 23rd for a soft launch, with the proper launch a week later.

Late Knights, who, true to their name, are taking their sweet time about opening their bar next to Mr Lawrence, have revealed the excellent name of their Crofton Park boozer: The London Beer Dispensary.  It also now has its own Twitter feed - last tweet said the builders were "building hard". That was on March 10th. So god knows what they are building. But opening must be imminent.

UPDATE - Last night, The LDB tweeted last night to say that they are hoping to be open by May 21st/22nd.

Maddy's Fish Bar. Not a drinks venue, not Brockley, but still exciting. The New Cross posh fish-and-chippery has confirmed its formal opening date of April 29th.

Are they being coy? Their facebook pages says it'll be at 168 Lewisham Way.

Oh just saw the caveat on their facebook page. Coyness regained.

Went to Maddy's last night for a 'taster'. Absolutely brilliant.

**Please note that the current address is NOT the actual address. The exact location will be revealed very soon**

I still maintain it will be upstairs at the Talbot. Watch this space!

If your not being too strict about Brockley then maybe add LP Bar (London Particular's new venture)...

My money is on the vacant Tea Factory unit.

Tea Factory would be nice, gamble on the location but has outside space and BC needs more good stuff.
Talbot is a bit out of the way?

Posh fish and chippery? Thank god we still have Fishy Business for more traditional fare.

Its being advertised as a brockley venue even though the Talbot is 16mins walk from Brockley Station (according to slow walking google maps) and much closer to St Johns station... besides its going to be called Little Nans Tea Cup so its *got to be the Tea Factory! (*Probably)

St Johns is not an area. The Talbot is in the Brockley conservation area, the Brockley ward, has a Brockley postcode and is right next to Brockley Market. Honestly, I don't care what we call this area - if you want to call the whole place St Johns, that's fine, but please can we stop trying to carve the area up into insignificant slivers? #bettertogether

Brockley seems the best name for it all, because it's actually its name. But whatever you want.

Doubt those NIMBYS in the conservation area would allow any sort of fun to go on.

Discussions while visiting Mr Lawrence this week - suggestion from behind the bar was that Late Knights will be in in next couple of weeks

You'd be surprised.

We had fantastic food at Maddy's last night, sandwiched between drinks in the LP Bar. Fishy Biz is our usual chippy, and we'll still be going there for takeaways, but Maddy's is perfect when you want something a bit more special - plus they serve booze. LP Bar was lovely too, really friendly staff and great cocktails - a happy trio of food & drink places in New Cross.

Hi Nick, I know this is the wrong thread but I couldn't see your email address anywhere ...this is an interesting site about Lewisham's lost cinemas- you may have seen it already but thought you'd like it.

the whole area is clearly marked as wards - why not simply go by that rather than creating fantasy districts according to the paucity of your ego?

Honor Oak Park is the nicest part of Greater Brockley

derp said...

No one knows the ward boundaries, as evidenced by the original comment. This is Brockley ward but the poster seemed unaware or indifferent. Plus, you don't know what paucity means.

Yocal said...

Rather than technical boundaries it's more about perception. Most would consider Brockley the area around the station whilst Lewisham Way is considered New Cross SE4 post code or not.

all this stuff about brockley or not. its tounge in cheek, no one cares do they....do they?

Westsider said...

"the whole area is clearly marked as wards" and "Most would consider Brockley the area around the station" but most of the west side of Brockley Station is actually Telegraph Hill ward and just up the road from the station, you hit Ladywell Ward (briefly). While Brockley Ward covers most of Lewisham Way (including the Talbot) and right down (including St Johns) towards Deptford.

You're both inadvertently proving Nick's point

Relax everyone - I wasn't saying the Talbot isn't in Brockley - it clearly is. I was just saying that Little Nan's advertising seemed to suggest a central Brockley location. I find brockley border arguments just as tedious as everyone else...

AliAfro said...

Their twitter feed says they are "aiming to be open around 22 May" - better late than never!

I'd be interersted to know what Jay from Budgens has to say about all this. Or Glen for that matter.

I visited The Brighton Beer Dispensary at the weekend. If they are anything to go by, the London Beer Dispensary will be pretty awesome. Darren, who used to be the manager at the Ravensbourne Arms will be taking the helm of the London side of the Late Knights venture.

Does anyone else find the Fishy Business fish of really variable (and sometimes downright suspect) quality? Sometimes it smells / tastes much "fishier" than I'd expect cod to taste? I find Tony's Plaice's portions much smaller, but the fish much better.

I take it all back - Upstairs at the Talbot Confirmed!
