Peter James: long live the new flesh

BCer Holly reports that Peter James, the legendary Ewhurst Road butcher, is retiring to a farm in Somerset.

The good news is that a buyer from Peckham is taking over and continuing to operate the shop as a butcher, with Peter retaining a share in the business and lending a hand in the early stages to ensure a smooth transition.

and let's also mention that he declined a far more lucrative offer from a developer to build flats, he will be greatly missed!

Ah, sad day, Such a nice guy. On Saturday he was showing a new bloke the ropes...I assumed it was a new staffer but perhaps he's taking over.

If only other long-term business owners in the area had such care for their legacy...

He'll be sadly missed. His shop is always packed when I go in on Saturday. So pleased another butchers has seen the potential.

Hi there, I will be taking over the shop from Peter and yes it was me on Saturday!
Peter was really keen to keep the site a butchery and we're working closely with him as you say to ensure a smooth transition.
We hope to keep the shop as strong as Peter has for the next 25yrs. There'll be a few changes but Peter is staying with the business even after he moves.
At the moment I'm in most Wednesday and Saturday mornings so do pop in to say hello if you're passing!
