Catford Bridge Tavern squatters evicted

Nearly a year after the Catford Bridge Tavern was bought by Camden Bars, police have finally evicted the squatters who'd made it their home and deprived Catford of a decent pub. Lewisham MPS says:

"Today at 07:30am after a possession order was obtained by the owners of the Copperfield PH, (Catford Bridge Tavern). Rushey Green SNT assisted with the eviction of twenty squatters from the pub."

Hopefully, this means another pub will be re-opened soon. The Honor Oak, which was also squatted, remains a sorry sight. With thanks to Chris for the heads-up.

I didn't say there were no others. I meant this was a decent pub and we were deprived of it.

I saw a Tweet suggesting Tesco owned it https://twitter.com/John_Muldoon/status/471680530413789185

I believe they do but it is currently available for rent: http://www.colliersproperty.co.uk/pubs-to-let/london/305856 and is only able to be used as a pub. I just hope they don't reject any possible new tennants so that they can ultimately turn it into another supermarket...

It's a shame that CBT closed... Used to love a stroll down there, across Hilly Fields then Ladywell Fields, quick pint and then back...

Surely the squatters only moved in because the owners were letting it sit idle? And given the hideous amount those of us who can't afford to buy property are being charged to rent flats in Catford, I don't really blame them.

ANTIC do definitely run a good pub.

All the questions about their business dealings do leave me unable to fully enthuse about them though.

Camdenbars bought the freehold as they wanted to build on what Antic had started. Antic were not willing to pay a good price for the freehold hence they lost out. The problem was in the meantime Tesco had bought the leasehold intending to open a supermarket. Thanks to Lewisham council the supermarket option was stopped, but then Tesco would not pass/sell the leasehold to Camdenbars.

2 things then happened from what I can tell. Antic strip out the entire place (NOTHING was left on the ground floor) which complicates Camdenbars taking over, then Tesco look to sell the leasehold on the open market through Colliers and the property gets squatted.

Hopefully this sorry saga will come to an end soon and Camdenbars can open what will no doubt be a great addition to the area. Imagine, TWO decent pubs in Catford, hell if you are willing to walk to the Blythe Hill Tavern it is almost a pub crawl!

another great pub "The Hansburys" off hither green lane in courthill road is about to close as their new owners "GOLFRATE" are applying to turn the above floors into flats which will in effect close the pub as they plan to build over the delivery doors stopping the poor tenants deliveries,This Golfrate are buying pubs all over London doubling the landlords rents so forcing them out when they cant pay. This is what happened to the old 286 gay bar in Lewisham recently.
