Unsure upon Avignon [UPDATED]

Ali writes:

"Here's a photo of pavement that was laid last week on Avignon Road!

"When contacted today about the complete disintegration of the pavers and the serious danger to the public, the response was 'not our problem, guv.'

"Conway's view is that they have done the job and signed it off, any complaints now go to The Highways Agency.

"Gotta love when a company takes pride in their work!"

- Earlier this year, Conway was awarded a seven year contract to maintain Lewisham's roads.

UPDATE: Conway has just provided this update - which is great news:

Absolutely outrageous. Same with the mini lake outside Brockley station ticket office. According to the Highways Agency website:

"For all queries, complaints, feedback and fault reporting regarding the Highways Agency’s network:

For any road safety issues please call us, as emails cannot always be dealt with upon receipt.

Email us at ha_info@highways.gsi.gov.uk

or

Call 0300 123 5000"

Ironic that they put their email first after advising people not to use it ...

Cars park along that pavement so unless Conway make sure they account for this, then this will continue to happen. It's a ruse to ensure they continue to get more work. Typical dodgy tradesmen. Haven't met one that won't try to pull a fast one so that they can get another job out of it. They should be ashamed of themselves.

Presumably Conway know where Lewisham have buried the bodies. It's the only explanation for their continued relationship. Our only hope is that Conway buried them to their usual high standards so that, when they are found, the truth will come out.

There's some bad paving going down in brook mill road currently. Maybe I should get onto the council before the work is 'complete'

I have had good responses (in terms of action) when reporting things to the councils own website at: http://www.lewisham.gov.uk/myservices/transport/roads-and-pavements/Pages/default.aspx
The problems were caused by works by Skanska and Conways leaving holes and various obstacles on the pavement opposite where I live - after reporting things were eventually attended to, but not after reporting several times I have to admit - so be persistant.
It's the councils job to deal with shoddy work by their contractors.

haha, yes, bloody Skanska. After replacing our nice lamp-post last year with boring modern ones (and not taking our concerns seriously), they didn't bother filling in a hole properly and caused a power cut down the whole road when the cable got severed as a result. Poor effort!

(this was supposed to be a reply to another comment below; not on the article so much as that's Conway...)

Conway are rubbish... Let's all vote for anti-Conway candidates at the next Council election instead of getting hung up on national issues! Oh hang on, we had our chance in May...

Must have been the same idiots who 'repaired' UBR a few weeks ago by throwing some bitumen into potholes with a shovel...

I prefer the new lamps. It might not be atmospheric as yellow lamps, but the white lights has better colour rendering, making it easier to see who is mugging you.

Why should Conway be concerned about shoddy work. They are not paying for the repairs or work that needs to be done!

True, I doubt they lose any sleep in their caravans at night.

Hate to go against the Conway bashing, but I don't really see it as their issue. The paving has clearly been driven over, something that footways are not designed to do. It's potentially a design issue (presumably designed in house by the council) where some form of protection should have been put in place, but predominantly the issue is with bad drivers. Fine them the cost of repairing and they won't do it again!

Also it has nothing to do with the Highways Agency - they look after motorways and other trunk roads.

the paving was badlly designed, you simply do not use that kind of paving on the egde of pavements. badly specified and should never have been built that way in the first place. This is them cutting corners and maximising profit. OPlus it would not have been designed in house by the council. The council will have design guidelines to construct paving and i can bet you top dollar it is not what is shown in the picture.

check the kerb.

Of course it's been driven on, parking on that stretch of road requires cars to park with 2 wheels on the pavement, it is clearly sign posted and Conway know this.
