The Proud Sow, 1 Ewhurst Row

As part of Saturday's CroftFest celebrations, the 106 year old butchery at Ewhurst Road (Peter James) unveiled its new identity – as The Proud Sow of Crofton Park.
Oliver Khaldi of Peckham is the new butcher in residence – having picked up the mantle from long-standing owner Peter James in July this year. Oli says he is dedicated to maintaining the traditions of an independent local butcher:

“This site on Ewhurst Road has been a thriving family butchers for over a century and it’s a tradition I want to uphold. We really value our loyal local customers and will continue to provide the quality, traditional cuts they love, as well as hopefully introducing them to some exciting new varieties and other fantastic local produce.”

Oli has been at the reigns now for a couple of months and I can confirm that the shop is in safe hands. The quality of the produce and service is still top notch (arguably even better). Welcome additions include a wider selection of sausages to supplement Peter's original recipe ,which are still available, and locally baked artisan breads. The shop has had a spruce up and has never looked better. Oli is extremely knowledgeable on all things meat, and is always happy to advise on how to get the best out of all cuts as well as being able to source the more unusual on request.

The area is incredibly fortunate to have such a great butchery, and I'm looking forward to watching it go from strength to strength

This is great news for Crofton Park. I just wish I could get there on more than just a Saturday. Hopefully they will change to do a late night midweek. Then I can finally stop the Tesco meat buying

A 7.30pm, tuesday or wednesday would be great. When you don't leave work until 5.30 - 6 it's just impossible to get there.

We went along to the opening on Saturday and were hugely impressed with what Oli and the team have done. Great to see people putting so much effort into good, local independent businesses. And nice to see a focus on quality, well-sourced ingredients without charging extortionate prices as well. I bought a couple of rib eye steaks and some sausages and it was all excellent, very tasty. We'll be back soon!
